patrick carroll 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2010 the " reverse mystery box " landed at my doorsteps this week, as usual, there were some great looking flies to go thru." mystery box 3 " should be heading this way very soon. I will be making adjustments on both mailing sequences, trying to key on locations for less distances for mailing. I haven't gotten any feedback on the other " mystery box", sent a message or two, but so far, no response. my intent is to have 2 boxes for the next cycle, when the third box arrives , I should be able to work something out. we should have about 14 tyers for cycle 5, any interested new tyers can figure about 2 months or so for the next cycle. here's hoping trent and will are starting to manuever a lot better. hopefully mother nature gives us a break or two. have a good one pat carroll

I'm in Louisville, KY, and this past Saturday was the Kentucky Derby. For those not familiar, there is a 2 week festival leading up to the Derby, and the Friday before Derby (Kentucky Oaks Day) and Derby Day are holidays in Louisville. Schools and businesses are closed. Local tv stations broadcast all day from Churchill Downs. Most locals don't go to the track... we have Derby Parties. We had about 15 guests Saturday and I hickory smoked pork ribs. So it took me a day or two to go through the flies and add mine. The box is headed home today. Yes, you read that right.... a 2 week festival for a 2 minute horse race! Hundreds of events and activities! An event 136 years old is steeped in tradition! patrick carroll 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2010 mel,it sounds as though you had a great couple weeks. thanks for the update . I will need to step aside as swapmeister, so hopefully someone will be able to take over as the swapmeister. As mentioned in a recent posting, I have the reverse mystery box and mystery box 3 should be landing at my doorsteps in a few days. Still don't have any idea where the other box is located. In the last couple days, I have heard from will and kerusso and they won't be part of the next cycle, that means there will be 12 tyers for the next cycle. I will hold the boxes and wait for some input, keep the 2 boxes in circulation or combine the 2 boxes? Sorry for having to step aside, the "mystery swap ' has been an ongoing swap for a few years. I have been able to have some great dialog with you and the fly tying talents has been something else. Seeing the awesome selection of flies from all over the country has made this a special format. Thanks for sharing. have a good one pat carroll

I believe I'm in line in a while for the reverse box. So I'm looking forward to that. Haven't tied anything for quite a while however I think I have some time. Thanks again Pat. Mel, I look forward to the Derby every year and understand and have heard all that goes on the period beforehand. It is amazing!!!! Now the Preakness. patrick carroll 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2010 great hearing from you steve, the reverse box and the mystery box 3 both have a great slection of flies, but that doesn't surprise me , this swap is loaded with talent!! rich5665 has agreed to take over as meister, so the mystery swap is in good hands. I may be partial, but the mystery swap , has by far, been my favorite format, and having you all on board has been great. this old, old man is ready to head to the pasture. stay tuned for more details. pat

rich5665 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2010 Once everything has been worked out, I'll let everyone know when Cycle 5 of the swap will start. We have one box still out and about and two have found their way home to Pat. Should we continue with three boxes or drop back down to two? Or Do we just go with a bigger box. In the words of Scotty "This is Xciting!!"

rich5665 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2010 I received the Flies from Pat today, all nicely packed into one box  I'm going to split the box into two boxes, the first will go out on Monday, the second will go out after I shuffle the names up a bit. After going through the box only four didn't have tags. I'll set these aside for donation to Casting for Recovery in a tin. If you wish to add to the tin please feel free to do so. Oh ya, before I forget, I'm not going to tell you who is going to be getting a box first. So be on the look out. Pat - Thank you for restarting and hosting this swap, it has been a blast. patrick carroll 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2010 As I expected, the next cycle is moving right along. I didn't really explain my reason for stepping aside as meister. I had a few things going on . My wife and I are both involved with the local cancer drive called, Race For The Cure, that is ready to happen this weekend. She is on the Cancer Survivors Committee, and I am the Luminaria Chairman. We are first timers at this, so its been quite an experience. My wife has been on chemo for aver 18 months, she recently started taking a stronger dose of chemo. Its hit her pretty hard, she still maintains her 'KISS ASS ' attitude in her fight, so "MY HERO" , is giving it a great shot. If you are in to praying, it would be most welcomed. The 'mystery swap" is in good hands and keeps getting more better and more better, I still check things out. I suspect the third box may be going to AFtier, if so, I think the charity box may be with it. Have a good one Pat
