chrisbarnett 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2007 I love the stuff! I really like to use it for a thorax on a PTN and pull out the the dubbing for long legs. (peacock color.)
overbrook 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2007 Overbrook, Those nymphs and scuds look great, super color and very well done. Ray Ray ...thanks! the pattern for those nymphs was "borrowed" from the spycho prince...though I replaced the midge flash with CDC for the gills, added an epoxied wingcase and do them in several color combo's .... The "crystal coachman" was inspired by a fly plumbob tied called the golden horseshoe....where he palmered the abdomen of the fly with a smaller hackle...then used an oversized hackle on the thorax sort of Variant style ? anyway ...it was a beautiful fly ...and Robert has taught me a lot.....though my flies don't even compare to his! (course I'm not trying to win a worldwide competition either ....LOL) :hyst:

Harold Ray 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2007 latex rubber Kimo, is it latex rubber tubing or a type of liqud rubber that dries? Where did you buy it. I want to do some of those and would like to use what you did if that's okay with you. Thanks! Ray
Kimo 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2007 Harold Ray, The latex is cut from a surgical glove in strips from the wrist section. The strips are anywhere from 3/16" to 1/4" wide depending on the size of the scud I'm tying. http://www.flytyingclips.com/scudflip.html Kimo
Slate_Drake_9 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2007 I love this stuff. I use Ice Dub, Krystal Dub and STS Trilobal Dubbing in a lot of patterns. The STS Trilobal is probably my favorite because it is a bit smaller diameter fiber and I think that makes it easier to work with. Here are some pattern I've had sucess with so far. STS Olive Caddis Soft Hackle: STS Black and Purple Soft Hackle: Ice Dub Weenie Variant: Ice Dub Thorax Flash Back PT: Ice Dub Chartreuse Thorax Soft Hackle: Ice Dub Chartruese Body Soft Hackle: STS Hackle-less Hot Cone Bugger:

I've got to get out my Ice Dub and have some fun now! Maybe we could start an "I Love Ice Dub" Club !! LOL!
Slate_Drake_9 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2007 Maybe we could start an "I Love Ice Dub" Club !! LOL! It is neat stuff and there are tons of colors available. I just wish they made a much smaller version for small nymphs, say 16 and smaller. I plan to cut some up into small pieces to try it, but I think it will be a hassel. If they come out with a "midge" size, I will start the club myself. :headbang:
VERN-O 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2007 Hey slate what did you use for the hackle on the black and purple????....those are all some sweet flies!!!! ILIDC member #2 proud card carring member!!!
troutchaser30 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2007 Ditto on the aforementioned patterns...very cool! I love the peacock ice dub. I use it for the thorax on my stimulators, as well as for underbodies on foam beetles. I also tried the UV white color on an Alewife imitation...good stuff. Hopefully Santa will bring me more colors this year even though I haven't been that good.

ILIDC member #2 proud card carring member!!! Natural Black hen saddle (Metz). I find that the natural has a nicer coloring to it than does dyed.
