Sorry for the poor quality of the picture I can recommend the pogo nymph tied by Stu Tripney to better the pheasant tail nymph and as featured on his DVD A Foam Odyssey: http://www.flyshop.co.nz/page/F/PROD/extras/pogo On the DVD he explains how he developed it from the Pheasant Tail. flykid 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2008 It's not a true pheasant tail nymph but I'll comment on proportion and style. On nymphs the tail should be short. Yours isn't bad but it's a little too long. Also maybe a few less fibers would be good. Your proportions on the abdomen and thorax look good but try to make the abdomen less bulky than the thorax. The thorax is the place where the legs are (I assume you probably know that) so try picking out the dubbing on the sides of the thorax also. But you would definately catch fish on that fly. carlp5351 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2008 I agree with Flykid your tail is to long, and too many fibres. S/B 1/2 shank length and about 4 fibers. Here is pic of one my P.T. Great start keep working at.
Bruce Derington 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2008 Flykid and carlp are right on :headbang: Try and replicate carlp's , then crank out a dozen or more. If they don't look right razor blade them and start over. Practice is the key
crappie 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2008 I find tha ttyhe PTN that I tie with tails as long as his are the ones that work better for me in all the fishing I do. But then I tie my bodies thinner that most are made also. Crappie
