RustyB 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2010 I'm looking for some suggestions on big streamers for browns. My local river has some really good sized browns but I'm not sure as to what to throw at them.

Imitate the local baitfish or sculpins or whatever the main forage fish are.

eastern fly 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2010 Articulated flies work well for big browns. And as Fishyboy said the Flash Fly Clouser is my "go to" fly on the North Branch Potomac River. I catch everything with that fly. Kevin

rockworm 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2010 You might want to try a few of Bear's Mine Sweepers. I have it on good authority this is the pattern to use on the Au Sable for BIG browns.
troutguy 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2010 I used to live in NY. I fished for browns with an old 7wt Fenwick 9ft fiber glass rod. Great night fishing rod. I always used #2, #4, #6 or #8 Muddler minnow tied with smaller tapered heads to be more sculpin like. This a a 28 inch brown I caught and released in NC on a #2 muddler. I also like large #4 wet flies. Montreal, Catskill, Queen of the Waters, Pickett Pin and others. Yes that is a 6' 6" Orvis Flea with 3 wt line.
troutguy 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2010 It was tough to scan the picture. Here is what it looks like now. It is mounted with two streamers on the bookshelf.
flytyinfreak 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2010 The spring issue of Fly Rod and Reel has an article all about "lifelike" streamers for big browns. It also interviews Kelly G. about his favorite flies and some insight into streamers for big fish.
