smalliehunter 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2010 It has been 5 long years since we did a "fly challenge" here on FTF and I would bet that there are very few people that are still around from those days. How it works is simple. Upload a photo of your favorite wooly bugger. It could be your best fish producer, the one that you enjoy tying the most or something creative that you just came up with for fun. Upload the photo and please include a material list for any members that wants to tie one for yourself! You guys are in for two treats... 1. I'm actually going to take a few minutes and come up with a wooly bugger variation I have never tied before. Don't know what it is going to be, what materials I am going to use, etc but I want to participate in this. I haven't posted a fly I have tied on here in quite some time, so I am long overdue. 2. One lucky person that shows off a bugger variation will get a shiny new pair of the 5.5" Tungsten 6th Finger scissors that I have been selling for quite some time. That is a $30 pair of scissors just for posting a photo. Once this thread has been around for a while I will randomly choose a member that has posted something on this thread. Just trying to do what I can to bring back some of the unique things that we use to do around here so take a few minutes and post a bugger that you have recently tied! Hillbillyredear 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2010 I call this the Flash Bugger Thread of choice I used 200 Gel spun Hook of choice, I used a size 4/0 wide gap bass hook Marabou tail (color of choice) wire ribbing cactus chenille regular chenille under body Hackle I used red long schlappen hackle Can be tied in a veriety of colors Olive has been a killer Large Mouth bass pattern for me this season. On most of my bugger-type flies I wrap the butts of the tail marabou up the body, and prefer the smaller profile of the soft hackle collar vs. the traditional Bugger hackling. Hook: Sz 10 Tail: Brown Marabou Hackle: Brown Rib: Small copper wire Thread: Orange 140 denier Eyes: Bead chain Legs: Hot tipped silli legs - Black/Red Tie on the bead chain eyes on top of the hook, useing figure 8 thread wraps about 1/8 inch back from the hook eye. Then wrap the thread back to just above the barb of the hook. Tie on the tail, then the copper wire and the hackle. Twist the brown marabou and wrap it to right behind the eyes. Tie it off and clip the excess. Wrap the hackle to behind the eyes. make 2 or 3 wraps of hackle just behind the eyes and tie it off. Clip the excess. Counter wrap the copper wire rib to behind the eyes and tie off. Clip or break off excess. Make a couple extra thread wraps behind the eyes and put in a half hitch or two. Move the tread in front of the eyes. Tie in 6 peices of the silli legs on the under side so the black part extends over the point of the hook. Clip the legs so they are as long as the hook shank. I like to have about half black and half red after they are cut to length. Make a head and whip finish. I've caught carp, cats, bass, bluegill, drum (sheephead) on this fly. You could use any color combo to match a local bug. I don't know if this could really be called a "wooly bugger", your call on that one! (maybe with a tighter hackle wrap up the body?) Mickalo 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2010 This is a bugger pattern I was experimenting with a few months ago. Foxy Bugger. Size#8 std streamer hook. Thread: 6/0 dark olive. Pearl Glass Bead. Lead wrap 2/3 from hook eye. Tail: Blk Fox Underbody: con't., from tail material wrapped to shank. Overbody: 6-8 strands of copper flash twisted in a rope and wrapped. Hackle: Ginger Variant (like variants for buggers) wrapped frt to back. Rib: counter wrapped - Pearl metallic thread Collar: Blk Fox.
