Harold Ray 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2014 Those are nice, Bruce. Mike has a great technique and is surrounded at shows where he is also a great face to face teacher. If you ever want to meet him come to the Conclave or Sowbug in Mountain Home. Ray

mvendon 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2014 Any more info on those hellgrammites? Love the looks of them but can't seem to find any pattern info. Hi ScottK, Hook: Mustad 3665A bent slightly about a third from the eye. Underbody: 0.27 square lead on either side Tail: Black hen cape feathers with curve up. Thread: Dark rusty brown or black Abdomen: 3 ply brown wool yarn with one ply removed. Gills: Palmered black dry saddle hackle trimmed on top and bottom and copper wire counter wrapped over it. Thorax: Same dark brown wool yarn Legs: Black hen cape feather palmered three turns to where head is. Original had head cement applied so you could make the feather barbs into three leg clumps on each side with the feather tied flat on top. I don't use cement, but trim the bottom hackle part shorter and leave the sides alone so they can still move while fishing. Wingcase: Dark turkey tail Mandibles: Brown dyed goose biots tied in reverse and trimmed Note: I put a small drop of cement at the tail base and where the biots are tied in for added strength. Regards, Mark
