Steamboat 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2018 just a few of mine, I use a 7 1/2 foot 10 wt. to cast the big boys ! sadflyx, what are you using for disks on the sonic streamers? I know they move some water and lots of fish in some of the local hydro habitat. Nice work on all of these... Keep posting I looked through the thread but didn't see an answer. I am also curious about the disks on the streamers.

sandflyx 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2018 Ok on the disks orange juice carton tops. or any carton that has the pop top, cut the ring off and you have a great disk. I am now painting them too. and you can add a few holes in them so when you pull the fly under you get a slight bubble stream
MuskyFlyGuy 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2018 Sandflyx Great idea. Which way is facing forward? Have you tried the other way? What are the differences? Would you mind posting a picture? Thanks for the great idea!
sandflyx 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2018 this has the cup facing forward. not much difference in them unless you are fishing in the surface then this one pushes more water.
sandflyx 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2018 here's 2 he other way. that's a 10x 5" long large eye squid hook. the silver head is a bubble head from Orvis back in 1014 for offshore I adapted to the musky flies. they go down quick. and the last fly is a walk the dog style I came up with. MuskyFlyGuy 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2018 Wow, they bring up an amazing number of possibilities. Would you typically put them on via the point or put them over the eye and lock them in with a thread dam? Are the disks attached to the hook or are impaled on it? I will get these in my tying order and post when I complete one.
sandflyx 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2018 I melt a hole in the center just large enough to go past the hook point.
MuskyFlyGuy 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2018 My first example of tying with a disc on the front of the fly. I used a white one from a carton of half and half. I struggled to get the disc squared up on the hook. Ultimately I tried a hollow bead on the front with final adjustments made via thread between the bead and the disk. Would a thread dam work as well as the bead? I am looking forward to the season opening, so I can see how it looks in the water. Thanks for any suggestions.
