Beautiful red! I haven’t had the opportunity to target them much the last few years. 
 

Last nights full moon had plenty of fish feeding. I’d catch a sunshine, then 2 or 3 snook. Then another sunshine, then 2 or 3 snook. My arms are a little stiff this morning. Released all the snook and brought these 4 home to eat.

I figured it was a red at first by the hit and bulldog fight, but then when it swam by the boat I thought I had a gator trout with all the spots. I was thinking about bringing a red home for dinner but that one was too nice looking to not put back for another day. 

 

Solid snook, ours have went to their wintering holes. I have been out in the skinny water looking for crawling reds so chasing snook has been put on the back burner for now.

A few recent snook since season opened on the 1st. I’ve seen quite a few of the “humpback” snook the last couple seasons. After some research it seems like it is a birth defect that can happen at a certain stage of development. 

this is the first I’ve seen where a lateral line made a loop. Crazy! ps, excuse the beer bottle.. didn’t see it till I took the pic. It was disposed of.

Neat lateral line.  Obviously, the humpback deformity doesn't impair their ability to find and catch food.  That one looks plenty healthy otherwise.

Mike!! This is 👉freshwater👈.  Lake O fresh.. not even brackish at all. It’s been a while since I did any salt fishing.

I knew they moved up into fresh water, but not that far.  Okay, so it's not just salt water I'm NOT fishing ... it's water I need to drive hours to reach.  I'm good fishing for the little fish I catch closer to home.

Went out at low tide and was hoping to find some crawling reds, but they were mostly holding on the slightly deeper mud flats. Been windy this week so the water color was that of chocolate milk. Not much for sight fishing. But I was lucky enough to find a small school of reds to bounce around. Landed 5, largest at 25" and came home for a blackened redfish dinner.

My new kayak (Old Town Autopilot 136) came in early last month and it has been a blast to fish from. Having the trolling motor and being easy to stand in for casting really changes the game.
