mikechell 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2019 Keeping bass at the lower end of the size limits is a good management idea. For every large bass trying to get larger, there may be tens or hundreds of smaller bass. They tend to school more, and can decimate a forage base. Plus, the smaller ones taste better. And the slot limits some states have are a good idea, too.
Philly 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2019 I was just looking at the PA regulations for bass. There is really no closed season. Between April 13th and June 14th, it's "No Harvest" Catch and Release only. No Tournaments are allowed. There are several lakes that are managed for big bass, including a couple that I fish. Rules above apply. Minimum size to keep on these lakes is15 inches and you can keep 4 combined species(Largemouth, smallmouth and spotted). There's a different set for ordinary lakes, ponds, rivers and streams. PA definitely makes it complicated. Lakes-Jan1-April 12 and Nov 1- Dec 31. Keep 4, minimum length 15 inches. June 15-Oct 31. Keep 6 minimum size 12 inches Rivers and streams. Jan 1-April 12 and Oct 1- Dec 31. Keep 4, minimum length 15 inches. June 15-Sept 30. Keep 6 minimum size 12 inches Two rivers, the Susquehanna and Juanita are Catch and Release Only.
tjm 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2019 Mo. has no closed bass season, all the Ozark smallmouth streams are C&R from Mar to May but the north half of the state and the giant hydroelectric lakes are wide open tourneys and all. Managed streams smallmouth have to be 15". Trout in streams and tailwaters is year round, only in the four Trout Parks do they close the season- opening day sells a weeks worth of passes and people are so crowded that most can't fish, it's nonsense.
