mikechell 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2020 My original "Panfish Attractor" is tied on Eagle Claw straight shank hooks, size 8. Those hooks are good, but thin wire makes them easily bendable, lost fish, etc. When I was in Hawaii, I picked up some "limerick" hooks (from "Maruto" ... or "Dohitomi & Co.") on sale. They are size 6, but similar to the Eagle Claws. Thicker wire, chrome with the limerick bend that seems to keep fish on better. Well, I'm about out of those hooks, and I can't find more. I bought a pack of Mustad "O'Shaughnessy Stainless" size 6, thinking they'd be similar to the limericks. They looked right, in the store, but nope, too big, in my opinion. The fly just doesn't look "right." I don't have the limericks with me to compare, but they just aren't right. I finally tied something on some size 14 heavy wire hooks. I don't tie this small ... so I have no idea if they'll work for anything bigger than a 3 inch Bluegill.

Thank you for the compliment, Darrell. Those look okay, and they might get some hits ... but they're not exactly "Panfish Attractors", in my opinion. They're more like a "big brother" to the original pattern.

mikechell 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2020 If Richmc was part of the swap ... the llama hair came from him. He gave me some, last year when I was up there. If he WASN'T part of it ... then I apologize to whomever passed out the hair.
