I'm lucky enough to live near Cape Cod, MA and it's covered with small, crystal clear kettle ponds around 100 acres or less with HP restrictions, this is ideal for belly boating. I spend most of my time in the belly boat instead of my 16 footer....a few things to consider though: -I wear waders all year to deal with water temp as well as the occasional leach (hate them) -try to avoid the bigger water, wind is tough to deal with as well as the bigger boats ( had an issue with some punk teenagers that thought it would be a great idea to try to swamp me on a 300 acre lake) -if you want to take pictures, bring a crap camera

Lexan...it's a plastic most frequently used on paintball goggles....easy to cut and shape but highly impact resistant

you tie a great fly...been very impressed with your selection so far....

gotta love the "guy" that shows up with the walmart special Shakespear White Rino with the plastic, upside down spinning reel that thinks it's nessacery to throw 4 ounce pyramid weights and a 7/0 hook to cast his shiner three feet to your left, over your line and leave it there. The best part is when you try to politly ask him to move he doesn't speak english! Love fishing in RI...The smallest state with the most availabel coastline and the biggest concentration of a-holes.

Before my original laptop decided to never turn on again, I had a link saved to my favs for a online fly tying supply store that had the only known (to me) supply of foam wiggle sticks in a crawdad pattern to tie the wiggle craws. Anybody know what the name of that company was. It has slipped my mind and i'm down to my last wiggle craw. Any help would be great.

On occasion, up here in New England, I do use nymphs for smallies. I do tie them on the bigger side. Woolhead and Deer hair dragonfly muddlers in size 6, and 4, Damsel Fly nymph imataions in size 6 hooks and Whitlock Red squirrel nymphs up to size 2 and the clouser swimming nymph.

Dahlberg Flashdancers in differant color combinations size 1 3366 hooks, decievers size 1, bunny flies up to size 1/0 Empie Goldies, wool head rattlin' streamers in size 1 and 1/0.

Catch more perch here in New England on Goldies than anyother fly.

The only flies that i have had any issues with the weedguards and the slit foam were the commercial ones that I purchased...the companies must use a slighly lighter mono than i use on my own.

look at www.bearsden.com they have slit foam boxes in all sizes. I personally have 4 of them and love them.

Easy and suggestive, I like the Barr Meatwhistle. The only thing i do diferantly is to replace the marabou collar with a crosscut rabbit strip. I like the way it opens up underwater. It looks like a pissed off crawfish. I tie them in olive, brown and tan.

One of my favorites is the Dahlberg Flashdancer in the original color and I do a bluegill coloration. Once the deerhair gets wet it sinks just below the surface and i strip it like i would a slug go. Great for over submerged weed beds. I also add a mono weedguard. Watch out though, the pickeral's love it too...so expect to lose a few.

Ridderbros3, That would be great, saw them, the frogs, at my local fly store and fell in love with them...great idea...I've been trying to tie them for months now but can never seem to get the foam right. Tying on size 2 and 4 hooks... again, thank you...

Does anyone out there know the shape to cut the foam body for the Chip's peeper frog?

I've caught more perch on the Goldie, than on anything else in my fly box. Over 50 of them in a two day period and would have caught more if they hadn't destroyed all ten that i tied. Here is the link with instructions on how to tie it. I tie them in Gold, Gold to mimic the golden shiners up here, Gold with an olive back to imitate perch fry, and silver with a blue back to imitate the blue back herrin and alewives that spawn in the ponds on Cape Cod. All colors in size 6 and 4 The only thing i do differantly is instead of wrapping the body with mylar, i use the bodi braid and coat it with hard as nails so that they dont frey after multiple fish, this seems to extend the life of the fly. http://www.crossroadsanglers.com/goldie.html

Jszymczyk, Great pics, I noticed that you have a wrap around your wrist, is that your casting hand? If so, does that wrap help with your casting? I spent all day (from 8:30 am until 7:30 pm) on the water Saturday, and when i went back out sunday, my casting was garbage...i think it was wrist fatigue not allowing me to time my casts and maintian control of the rod. Wondering if something like that would help? And yes Wolly Buggers are the best in any size and almost any color, I catch a lot of largemouths and smallmouths on a weaved firetiger WB in stained water up here...just make sure that on the larger sizes, use a weed guard. The hooks are sharp enough to hook into the rocks and it drives me crazy!!!

Typically, for my smaller flies (size 10-6) i use the 6/0 thread that I tie on my skirts with, and on my bigger flies i have been using kevlar, but since i switch to the brassie to pack the hair, I've been cutting the 6/0 and i dont feel the Kevlar allows me to pack tight enough to get a good firm base that can be cut with a razor. Has anybody used the gel spun with better results?
