Thanks for the input and sites to look into. I went ahead and picked up the Redington and am well pleased with it. Only complaint was the reel handle. My 5 wt has a paddle style and this one was round but a phone call to Bill in Redingtons' customer service was met with quick satisfaction. Bill sent out a paddle style and it's now on the reel. Great customer service! I am sure the RS4 will be with me a long time. Thanks again AB

I notice that you didn't ask for my opinion, but you're going to get it anyway. That's been my attitude for 30+ years, so why change now? :hyst: The wings seem too tall. Make them the length of the hook shank. The hackle should start right behind the wings, and make it more dense. (No comments from the peanut gallery about being dense, ok? ) Like Bruce said, start the body at the bend. I would also try to get the tail fibers to stay together more, and I think that by starting the body at the bend, you might achieve that. Looking better, though. Good to see that you will be attending the class. I would, but I've tried to watch those on dial-up before, and I'm still watching well after the class is over. -PK You're right , I knew I'd hear your opinion sooner or later. 30+ years..no wonder my beard is grey and the rain hits my scalp so much sooner these days. Hi Bruce Thanks for looking and I plan on being there tomorrow. I don't have a camera and if this old boat anchor ever had a microphone it's long gone. I'll have to just watch and IM if I have anything worth saying. Getting the wings right is still not coming easy but I think the fish have stopped laughing. AB

I'm thinking about buying my first 8 wt for steelhead. Looking at a Redington RS4 with Rise reel. Other than it will tick off my wife is there any reason I shouldn't go this way. Cost is a consideration and I think this is gonnna be my limit. If you know of some othe brand I should be looking at please let me know. I have a Red Fly 2 5 wt and llike it and their CSR Bill treated me right with a warrenty issue. That counts for a lot in my book. Anyone out there have one? Thanks AB

I have gone back into my copy of Peter Gathercoles book Fly tying for beginners and have found some fundimental information that I had missed in my hurry to get started. More specific recipe instructions that have cleared up a few more questions about the process. Is there no end to all this learning? :wallbash: Anyway it will be a while before I can get back to work on the Adams. I'll give you a holler when I can. Peace AB

Hey PK. Thanks. I havn't tried the thread bump yet and I think I have made 5 serious attempts and 2 or 3 fooling with different color combinations. Grizzle and yellow grizzle mix was interesting. I don't think I am even worthy of carrying either Futzers of your net. Just keep coming with the advice cause an old dog can learn new tricks. Peace AB

Thank you Futzer. Truth be told I cheated a bit. I hadn't had a chance to pick up any brown hackle with shorter barbs so I used some black bugger hackle that had barbs that were a bit shorter. (I'm a bad dog) also just plain need to get somewhere to pick up better supplies. My wings have come off of grizzle bugger hackle too. Need to get some grizzle hen neck like Bruce said. I think I've got a shot at a good one once I pick up supplies. We are going by Jays Sporting Goods next week and my wife said if I didn't whine too much she might let me stop and resupply. I'm real glad to hear you use the word progress. Thanks for the offer of a model but lets wait and see if I can do any better with the proper supplies. I have olny walked the first mile of a thousand mile journey. Peace AB

I think I have made some improvements in my Adams but It will be a week or two before I can get back at it. (family obligations) This is the best fly I have been able to produce since the last one. Please feel free to point out any problems. Thank you AB

Its been a month since you guys talked this one over and I just found it and it is just what I needed for my trouble tying the Adams. Bruce and Futzer and others got me started but this answers questions that have come up since. I love this forum. Thanks again friends.
