  2. Yep, they call it a smurf and AM's method is bang on.
  3. Jump aboard, lykos. It doesn't look like we're going to have many people so you wouldn't have to make a bunch of them. They work great on the Margaree and would definitly be worthwhile to get a few in your flybox and some practice in on tying them. These things are like crack for Salmon Ya know ya wanna
  4. More for the practice than anything really. You've got your hands full as it is, by the looks of things lol
  5. Wow miko, you don't happen to build rocket ships too do ya? lol That looks like a complicated piece of equipment. Nice pics and cool lookin vise
  6. Think Sept 4 is enough time to swap our two bugs, or should we extend it??? :drunk:
  7. Got it all set up in the Swap section, we'll figure out a due date after.
  8. Got the go ahead from Will to host my first swap and seein as how these dandy Bombers work so well, I figure it would be a good one to start with. It would be great to see some tyers from Europe sign up too, you folks gotta be using these little gems over there too. All are welcome, new and seasoned vets alike. So dust off that deer hair, load up the vise and lets roll. I'm in Canada, so any Internationals shoot me a PM and we'll work out the postage deal. First 12 with an "I'm in" and a pattern. 9. Tossed a sweet lil G n O Bomber this weekend and look what took a fancy to it! :headbang: And wow did he smash it! I smell a Bomber Swap comin on if anyones interested!
  10. Congrats to you both  Have you found any vise shaped rattles yet??
  11. Adrian, your a clown, plain and simple. The only time you post anything is to try and goad Fred into some stupid war on words or to post your flys for compliments (I've read em all). On the other hand, Fred is always there to offer help, ideas and anything he can. Take it easy, he gave you a compliment like a real man would do and you sit back on your high horse, pretty lame and disrespectful if you ask me, but i'm just a lowly fly tier.
  12. Nice tutorial! I've been wondering about those parachutes for awhile! Thanks for doing that
  13. Here's another great link with how to's for a bunch of Salmon flies for Quebec and Eastern Canada. http://www.nsfa-adventures.com/ATLANTIC_SA..._STEP_FLIES.htm Thanks to MANITOU for this one.
  14. 1. Our government allowing Natives to stretch nets across our rivers and keep anything and everything that gets snared, including Salmon of which us lowly residents are only allowed to tag 8 of (grilse), and then see them for sale on the side of the road out of the back of a truck for 10 bucks. 2. Worm containers. These things are everywhere on any streams and rivers that are easily accessible. I removed 12 from a local river this past weekend, totally disgusting. 3. Clear cutting. Sensless and sickening
  15. Join the Wurm Swap :hyst: , Host a swap :headbang: I can alwas use a few more of those big yellow flies you tie up . Oops sorry I'm fueling your swap addiction  Then of coarse there is always fly fishing. Still need your addy tho lol
  16. Hi Phil, I have the same problem as you do and have started printing patterns while at my computer and starting a reference book of my own in a small binder. Some of the more experienced tyers have already posted numerous messages regarding what books are good for beginners, just do a quick search and you'd be suprised! Cheers and welcome!
  17. I recieved some "hand me downs" (ie junk) last year from a fella i know from work, his wife was putting the heat on him to cull the junk in their basement. I bought a few things from wal-mart since i had no clue what i was doing, and got frustrated because i had no clue how to make any of the flys i wanted to and no clue what materials to use. April of this year, the fishing bug started to set in again and I stumbled onto this incredible site. I found a great local shop with one of the best tyers in this part of the country, and between his advice and the great info here, I've been tying atleast 2 hrs a day since and see no end in sight. I've accumulated a wealth of quality materials, and this has grown into a passionate addiction. Thanks to all of you great tyers for your pics and tutorials, you guys are amazing!
  18. Grand Pu Bah, I'm ready for an addy! :wallbash: What the hell am I gonna do now???? lol
  19. The lengths that these so called "animal rights" extremists go to sometimes completely boils my blood. I, as well as most other God fearing men, see the need to protect our resources and respect the animals that live in them. In my opinion, these people are blatently abusing their right to free speech and spitting in the face of the country that has fought so hard to give its citizens freedom and the ability to get into our great outdoors. They seem to be able to get away with whatever they want under the guise that they are "activists". Well to me, an activist is someone who takes the time to deliver their message in an appropriate, intelligent manner, instead of the ridiculous actions they repeatedly perform and recieve little to no reprecussions for. I was born and raised in Newfoundland and have seen an entire province's way of life basically destroyed because of "animal activists". Their repeated protests of the seal hunt being barbaric is ridiculous. The increased number of these sloth like creatures, who's main diet is of course the Codfish, has crippled an economy, ruined small villages and families, and threatened to rid an area of its heritage and right to survive. For what? A chance to get on the evening news? I don't get how these people get away with the things they do. As for the Redneck comment, being a "Newfie" i can somewhat relate. We've been the brunt of endless jokes and television skits for as long as they've been around. The term "Newfie" is thrown around just as freely as "Redneck" is in the south, and although it can be taken out of context and twisted around to be taken as some sort of insult, we just smile and most times laugh and agree because at the end of the day we all know there's only two types of people in the world, Newfies and those who wish they were! :headbang: Take pride in your heritage and don't let a harmless comment make rise to actions as, in my opinion, that makes us no better than these overreacting "activists". I'm new to this forum and enjoy it immensely, there is a great brotherhood that goes with our craft and it would be a shame to see it squandered because of a harmless comment that has been blown out of proportion. Just my two cents. Cheers to one and all.
  20. Arkansas Mike, I'll send a couple "magic tinsel/wire holders" with the flies in our Swapaholic Swap and see if rich would be so kind as to forward them on to you with your flies. Just trim to fit!
  21. Ha! I hear ya, I said a couple Hail Mary's just in case!! lol
  22. Maybe try a bigger hook until you're able to comfortable get everything on there that you need and progress to smaller from there. I might not be seeing straight but i can't find the gray body on these. Good progression though, keep at it!
  23. Might be gettin a bit silly from all this rain! I think i'm startin to rust
  24. If you need some quality spinning hair lemme know, I''ve got a crazy good spot here in town to get it at a good price and don't mind shippin some your way if you'd like Cheers
