hi everyone, does anybody know where i can get a full summer duck skin? or a good amount of the lemon flanks at a fair price, im finding it really hard to find some without selling my dog, or one of the kids! any help is very much appreciated thankyou jay

Good point! colouration of the fly is important and that is limited with quills and biots, dubbins are endless but if you like the effect ov a quill like me make sure you tye alot ov them as durability is low, or even finely dub the body then rib it with a quill, looks the muts nuts but durability and colouration are higher priority. tight lines

does anyone know why poly pro floating yarn is called floating yarn when it doesnt float!? all it does is it doesnt take on water. i use it for posts and its ok but only because i fell for the name and bought 2 packs thinkin it would aid (flotation) just goes to show dont be fooled by the sales pitch! tight lines

the grey car seat belts once cut fray out in strands like a poly pro, good for posts and shucks may i add a WARNING......young ones please dont go trimmin your dads seat belts, go to a junk yard

The magic feather as its also known! is the perfect dry wing material, you can even tye a whole dry fly with cdc they float like a cork tight lines

try not to use glue, it makes the materials stiff and brittle just a little varnish on the whip finish tight lines

most websites that sell metz hen capes are selling them REALLY cheap! your better to buy a cape as someone mentiond the packet bought are dry and not good quality, and i agree a English/hungarian partridge skin is a good way to go about it, there covered in a nice range of colours grey,white,brown and mixed so you dont need 5 different hen capes and you get the wings and tail too tight lines

make sure you got a good foundation to tye the feather onto. if the the stem is quite thick and thicker than the hook it seems they might be rollin if so try a better foundation, and tye one at a time with a few loosish turns, place them then tye down to house them tight lines

Try mallard flanks, strip the fibres off the side to leave the tips to the size ov the wing you want. cdc,s a good one tied f fly style or summer duck, look on youtube for a good tying method for this (davie mcphail mayfly pigs wool gnat) tight lines

left handed, i tye with my left, cast with my left shoot hoops left but throw a baseball and football with my right!

a law vice is at the top of the range but if you like using a rotation vice that is not the one, and for £400 and not much rotation what makes it worth that much?, they do seem like good vices but i dont understand why it could cost that much could you elaborate?

seems to do the job nicely, cut some and scrunch it up makes a good dubbin aswell. you could get a nice mix out of that. little tip, cut a V in the tail tight lines

Hi chance im good thanks i joined a couple days ago, great little forum youv got. my three sons are keepin me on my toes so i havnt done as much as id like to lately but the skills are coming together nicely, you tye some nice flys yourself, whens some new vids on? when i have time and learn how to put some pictures on i will, mainly trout flys i tye hows the hopper legs comin on?

hi george try (matching the hatch);stillwater,river and stream by pat o'riley great book, its has loads of different pictures of the actual insects information and patterns to go with and like you said theres plenty of mayfly/dun patterns sedges,nymphs, you name it! but one thing i will point out is i think its better to look at an insect and think how best to immitate it with what materials if you havnt already started tying and dont know about materials then this will come with time, but the book is good either way beginner to pro tight lines

hi chance i tye these all the time with no tools, the easiest way to doit is pluck 2 fibres off, you can use as many as you like then fold in a circle and poke the (thick) end through the hole then slide the knot slowly to the place you want and pull the knot gently then do the same again if you want more knots like daddy legs. they get easy after about your first 50 and it beats payin out for ready tied, get a bunch off ebay sit infront of the T,V cold beer and before you know it, Acomplished! make sure there centre tail feathers 14 inch+ for a descent lenght fibre to cover all size flys tight lines

For trout or Salmon? im new here so there might be a fair bit on here to help you. if not then youtubes a good start. tight lines and good luck once you get into it you get much better, enjoy
