  1. Lay a towel over our head!!! LOL Awesome Idea!!!
  2. The head has a thick side and a thin side (top and bottom) So the thick side is placed on the belly side of the fly. The thin side is the dorsal side. Now that said Fish Skulls are made of a metal alloy. So they are light weight in comparison to Brass. I'm not sure they can flip every hook. If the wire is to thick (heavy) or the hook is to big they may struggle to flip it. Long answer short..... Hook up, Hook down is about how you place the head on.
  3. I disagree. One word......... Ewok! Thats some original stuff there!!! But then again I think the Ewok ate the box on its way out. I know some people will say...."well the way this and that are tied in is like XYZ fly.....Seriously THEY ARE ALL TIED WITH THREAD!!! SO THEY ALL MUST BE THE SAME? I tie flies for the Limos Chicks and Parties in LA. Making money and royalties are just walking around money. LOL!!! No honestly I sell and design for money but meeting people who "love" a patterns of mine because it has caught fish for them is the best part! Hands Down!
  4. Buy a Peak. HAHA! FYI HMH Has a lifetime warranty!
  5. When I tie I spend alot of time at it. So I gave up the bench for the kitchen table. It allows me to be apart of the family while I tie. So Schoolwork, a Nintendo DS, a laptop, dried up mac n cheese, a cellphone, and if Im lucky a beer.
  6. Kind of my thought. Sounds like a bobbin issue??? Keep us up to date on how rens cust serv treats you!
  7. Pedestal but I swapped mu HMH base for a Peak one. Its bigger and has a side post
  8. I need to get some good lights too! I was having your exact same problem. I tied outside last weekend and could not believe how much easier it was to tie

    Need a vise

I had a dan vise for a long time not to knock it but if you plan to tie for a long time its not a "long time vise" the jaws are crap. type "danvise jaws" in to the serch forum box you will see. I tie bass streamers pike streamers (click link in my signature) the best vise IMHO for this is the HMH http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDhIvaI7YH0 Lifetime warranty!
  15. Sage it might not be so funny! I was considering tying some premade foam pencil poppers. But Im stuck with the placement of the blade, rattle and hotdog (flavor and scent)......
  16. To "net" 15/hour, and tying 8-10/hour, you need to sell to the shop for $1.75 to $2 each. Do they pay you that much? Included just a little for supply costs. Yea, If they want my stuff then they pay 2 to 3 each that is shop guide pricing. And I know to the penny how much each fly costs me. So again I will not tie for less than 15 an hour. The good orders (when I accept them cause I hate tying them) are egg orders I can make 30$+ an hour tying eggs.

    New Vise!!!

Enjoy the Vises guys! Glad to help!!!!
  18. Dry fly? I do not really fish poppers much so I do not tie them. But for shops and guides I sell my streamers for 2 to 3 dollars each. Im in SW Michigan
  19. I sell to shops too. But I still need 15 an hour. And Umpqua is a great employer for its tiers. The average for me per hour is 8 to 10 flies. But I can crank it up (on some patterns) to 14 If i get in a groove. My flies are all simple for the most part. I will often design a fly, test it, get it swimming properly and then start taking things out to simplify the tie.
  20. I prefer to bait the fish in with the lure of the fly.....lol!
  21. Im a pee-on and Im a Rainys designer. And from my understanding a Job at thier facility in Indonesia is one of the most sought after jobs their. So If you are talking about the guy in Kenya who sends me an email a week wanting my patterns then yea thats crap. He runs a sweat shop. And makes crap flies. But Rainys, Umpqua, Montana fly, Pacific fly etc.. are good companies with good products and good employers. FYI please feel free to click my site below. No dollar flies there and I never tie for less than 15 dollars an hour. Honestly I average 16 after cost of materials.
