Jerry, Jerry, Jerry, buddy...I would have loved to hook up with you man. I was hoping to do some fishing when I was out there but never got any time. But that's ok, having seen it now, I know I'm coming back for sure. And I did post that I was going in the destinations forum....you must have selectively missed that post Nick
  6. I just wanted to reiterrate what a great group of people we have here at FTF. This past week I had a chance to visit Vancouver on the West Coast for the first time in order to attend the Western Canadian Fly Fishing Exposition. The show was great, as are all FFEC events, however what stood out most was meeting 3 fellow FTF'ers who were also there: Pacres - Darren Longears - Randy FlyFisher - Doug Thank you guys for reminding me what a great group FTF really is! Fly fishers have to be the absolute best group of people and I am absolutely convinced of that time and time again. I hope that I get a chance to meet many more of you guys in the future! Nick
  7. Very good question big_fish. I've read conflicting theories about using eyes on flies. Personally, I do tend to favor sticking some on on as many patterns as possible in the event they increase my chances of a hook up. Also, I doubt it can hurt. Attractors and large baitfish patterns I believe benefit more from the application of eyes. It's just one more factor which can trigger a strike, and in the event of large baitfish their eyes are often predominant so tying them in may make the pattern more relistic. You certantly don't need eyes on Mickey Finns to catch fish. Maybe try some with and some without and see if there is a noticable difference. There is always the question if eyes attract fish or fishermen. The choice is ultimately yours. Cheers, Nick
  8. Shaq, I'll take 2 dozen please Great work!
  9. Skunked, it's really starting to take shape. Good work. Sorry for the delay on the thread over mono walkthrough. I wish I had it done already bud.
  10. Hey Ken, I have some of those that I picked up from E-Bay a few years back. The guy who ties them is very talented. You can view a close up of one of his flies at: http://onlineflytyer.com/showfly.asp?record_ID=155 Just look at those legs!!! They are double knotted biots Unfortunately I have never been able to tie any of these patterns as they call for some pretty specialized materials. Nick
  11. Joesmax, David is a very well know tyer. He has a website where he describes some of his patterns and techniques. You can find it at: http://www.intercomm.com/davidmartin/ Hope this helps, Nick
  12. Congrats Skunked, you're well on your way now. I'll get cracking on that walkthrough asap. I could probably have it done in a few days but I will be on the road for most of this week so I don't think I'll be able to get it done before Monday or Tuesday. I'll try though. Keep working on that and let us know if we can help.
  13. Congratulations fishinlk ! You are very lucky to have such a talented young girl taking an interest in what you do. I only wish my fish fly looked like that! I think we have a new contender for the rookie of the year contest
  14. Congratulations Rick. I wish you and your family all the best!
  15. Shaq, very nicely done. I love the barred effect on the tail and antenna. Thank you for adding this to the DB!!!
  16. Thanks guys. BFR, Yes the entire fly is nothing but white thread and mono, including all of the legs. I'm working on a step by step article on how to do this. Should be ready by early next week I hope Nick
  17. FlyTyer-1, The wings are made from Pearlescent Sheets available through Green Caddis Outfitters (please see link below): http://www.greencaddis.com/product_info.ph...products_id=375 They are very inexpensive and work great. I fold the sheets in half and then cut 2 sets of wings, one slightly larger than the other. The end result are 4 symmetrical wings, 2 larger, 2 smaller. I then colored the tips of the wings with a matching blue pantone marker and tied them in so the larger wings are closest to the eye of the hook. I hope this helps. If there is anything else I can do to help please let me know. Nick
  18. A new addition to the fly pattern database has been submitted by Pujic: Realistic Hopper
  19. Glad to see you join Mark!!! Feel free to jump right in and feel at home. Just watch out for those members from Michigan
  20. Hi Newfie Flytyer, Welcome to the board. Depending on the type of lake or pond you're fishing in, I'd suggest trying some dragonfly and damselfly nymphs. I've had pretty good success with both in some Northern Ontario brookie lakes. Nick
  21. Dale, you're starting to scare me man. These bugs are unbelievable. Great work, as always! Nick
  22. Paul, welcome aboard! It's an honour to have you here. Thank you for the submissions you've made so far. We can all learn from you Nick
  23. Those are nothing short of remarkable! Thanks for posting them!
  24. Here is what I came up with a few days ago. I think this weekend I'm going to have another go at it and see if I can clean up the head and abdomen a bit.
