  1. Pick out a few flies that you would like to start tying and buy the materials you need for just those specific flies. It will give you a good starting point and won't break the bank. Later, you will move on to other patterns and you will start to build a supply of various materials. That's my advice anyway.
  2. I have several web sites and blogs I visit regularly to get my fly tying fix. What blogs or news sites do you guys visit? Maybe I can add to my list.
  3. Love it, nice job! That is one that I have been wanting to tie myself.
  4. I'm heading to Panama Beach, Florida soon and I noticed there is a bay nearby that held Red Fish. Would my 7wt be enough rod for them?
  5. Well, I shifted gears today and tied my first articulated streamer. I went with Mike Schmidt's Meal Ticket. The guy has some awesome flies and this was a lot of fun to tie. I can't wait to try it on some largemouths! You can see Mike's other flies at http://www.anglerschoiceflies.com
  6. I agree, very well made. The guy is obviously talented in woodworking.
  7. Nice post! Nice flies!
  8. Wow, beautiful fly!! Great work! Are you planning a step-by-step on your blog for this one?
  9. Ok good to know. I'll experiment then. Thank you.
  10. How do you judge the size of bead chain eyes for carp flies?
  11. Oh thanks, I did not realize that, but now I do. I really wish guys wouldn't dig up 9 year old posts and reply to them, sheesh.
  12. Jim, I'm interested in finding out more about your hooks.
  13. Great stuff guys, thank you! Keep'em coming! I'm glad there are so many responses.
  14. I would really like to work on some streamer patterns that would work for largemouth bass. I see all of these cool streamers out there like Conrad Sculpins and Zoo Cougars. I want to start working on some of these patterns. Since I have mostly largemouth bass near me, I figured I would target them. I'm just not sure what patterns I should start with. What do you guys recommend I start tying?
  15. Wow Steve, that is a beautiful rod!!! Ohhhhhhhh, I want one! (I'll have to save my pennies)
  16. Very cool idea and it gives it a good handle!
  17. Okay, that is great news! I actually figured they probably would, but I wanted to see if you guys had experience with it, so I'm glad to hear it does work. I have more lakes here that have bluegill than I have trout streams. But I really enjoy tying trout flies more than any other. I was at a private lake yesterday that had more bluegills and redear(shellcrackers) more than anything else and they were aggressive little farts too!
  18. Nice looking fly! I'll be keeping these in mind for sure!
