  1. Obi ... check your glasses. Your post of what you tied this summer ??? You didn't even mention what kind of vice you tied them on, so I am confused, or you are !!! Did you post on the wrong thread? It was an interesting read, granted, but it ain't got much to do with vises.
  2. Great, so I have maybe a year or two before she notices !!!
  3. Lykos33 ... you could always start a thread at the back and tie in a tail ... But I think those will catch fish just the way they are.
  4. It did well ... although, since I use a separate digital camera for most of my pictures, I can't vouch for it. But this years model was 10 megapixel, I think.
  5. Congrats and well done! I quit smoking, that seemed easy to me. Now I am only about 40 over where I should be, but the guy in the mirror looks bad to me. I have been trying to trim down, but it's much harder than quitting smoking was. I tried to quit eating the way I quit smoking, but when I couldn't stand up because of weakness, I knew that method (hunger strike on myself) wouldn't work. My biggest problem, I tell myself, is the travelling. I can't always eat right when I am on the road, but I am trying. Shhhh ... don't tell the guy in the mirror that I am trying to eat better. Again, Steve ... congrats and keep it going !!!
  6. Man, ya gotta love those Poor Man's Bonefish !!! Bulldogs of the warm water fishing scene !!!
  7. Somebody was asking about Sphinx Moth patterns. I am thinking, on a little larger hook, this would probably do the trick. Looks like a Bluegill magnet too!
  8. The broom I am thinking of using looks kind of like this one. Maybe she won't notice until it's about like this ... maybe?
  9. After seeing testimonials, and watching the video, I will be buying a Nor-Vise as soon as I can afford one. Yes, it's different, but wow, what a difference. If you are serious about tying, I think the Nor-Vice is worth having. All other vises are the same, by comparison, just varying degrees of quality, but they all work the same. The Nor-Vise is something new. I know I sound like a commercial ... and I'll probably be one of those who hate it when I finally get one, but I WILL get one.
  10. That's a nice looking rod, I love the handle (I'm partial to blue, too) ! Does this woman have a sister? (Who buys fishing rods for her man?)
  11. I am truly and eagerly awaiting. I don't have quite as much patience as you ... but I'll wait. Is it done, yet?
  12. I don't know if it's a good broom or not ... it's in the pantry in the kitchen. I figure the Wife won't miss a strand here or there !!!
  13. Okay, Steve ... you've got me hooked on this thread for several reasons. First, I think what you are doing is fascinating ... I don't put quite as much (read none) work into my aquariums as you do. But now you've got me worried. Some of the rocks you've chosen were great with the natural color. So now, you've got all this rock and background basically the same color. I can't wait to see how you are going to bring all of this together to create something ... less monochromatic in the end !
  14. Oooooo !!! I HAVE a plastic bristled broom !!! I will be tying one of these as soon as I get back to Florida !!!
  15. Now, that's a fly I am going to try !!! That's a simple tie for a great pseudo-realistic look. What did you use for legs?
  16. Scott, Ask for the G-Zone phone. It's mil-spec and water-proof to 30', drop proof from almost as high. I had one and it took a beating from me. The only reason I didn't get another one is I am trying to save a little money this year. It's not the most expensive phone, but it's pricier than I wanted to spend.
  17. Wow! And all this started with a $69.00 fly tying kit, probably. That's a great looking area. No offense, but I think you forgot to leave space for those "few friends over to tie"!
  18. Yes, it's a gorgeous river. Almost makes me want to move here. It flows through Oakdale where these pictures were taken. Oakdale is about 40 miles due east of Stockton. Maybe 90 miles due east of San Francisco.
  19. I guess I am the cheapest tightwad here. The first thing I did when I decided to get back into fly tying was, I raided the sewing basket. I can't tell you who the manufacturer is, but I got all kinds of bright colors and natural colors. The only time I have an issue with these threads is if I am looking for a smooth finish ... they all "fluff" up when head cement is applied. So to get a glossy look, you've got to coat it several times. The bass and bluegill don't seem to mind the fluffy look. For spinning deer hair, I am using some old 4# diameter Stren superbraid that was left over from spooling a spinning reel. You didn't list Stren as an option. I am just too cheap to pay for premium thread when what I've got seems to do the trick for me.
  20. Of course, if you are going to book trips to catch fish, you have to go to South America and catch some record sized Peacock Bass.
  21. Hey Jerry, From Deltona here. I don't do salt water ... but if you want to do some fresh water fishing again, send me a note. I need a few days, usually, to find out if I am home or not. Like right now, I am in California. Welcome to the site.
  22. You don't have to worry about being boring ... you'll be trading coupons and stuff with Steve at your health retreat, yes? It's great to see someone getting healthy, getting thin and putting in the work to keep others happy. I say this in the regard that it's those around you, that love you that suffer your "bad days" with you. Those are the ones that are also there to be happy with you when you go to lengths to stay alive and healthy so you can share a longer life together. Keep up the good work !!!
  23. Nice tie and nice catches. I sure wish one could see carp in Florida like you can up there. Even though most of our water is very shallow, it's also coffee colored and sight fishing is difficult. Plus there is so much vegetation and weed cover that the carp rarely show themselves in the open.
  24. I've got three of those types of guardians ... but I know they just want the empty box to play in. They pretend to guard the contents, but leave a corner open and they'll empty it for you.
  25. Since I am not trout fishing, I tie terrestrials ... nothing beats a bass or bream topwater hit on a grasshopper or dahlberg.
