Hey David, thanks for the heads up! I bought a bunch of barbless hooks about two weeks ago and have been tying with only those. They have their own box so I don't get confused with them. I don't like fines of any sort, and enjoy fishing within the regulations.

Vicrider, thanks for the story and fishing technique. Just got off the vise with a half dozen big streamers weighted as much as I could manage. I'll be bringing the split shot with me as well. I sincerely hope a half days fishing doesn't blow by as fast as I think it will.

Thanks troutguy, I've been tying just about everything I can think of. I'm working with all barbless hooks just because I didn't want to mess around with mashing the barb and not getting it just right. The lady I spoke to said the game warden used a cotton shirt and if it snags you're hosed. FlickNDip, thanks for the heads up. I called this morning and they said they will have the final word on it on Monday or Tuesday. I have a morning slot on Wednesday and they said since there have been cooler evenings (last night) and maybe tonight, that odds are the morning slot will stay open and they will close the afternoon.

Thanks for sharing that article vicrider. Troutguy, thanks for the advice. I'll bring some big weighted streamers and some split shot for that part of the stream if I make it there. I've heard there are four different sections and they limit which anglers go to any of the given sections.

I've reserved a spot for myself and a friend to go fishing at Dukes Creek in early August and I will be tying flies for both of us to use while we are on the water. My friend doesn't have any trout flies so I intend to tie everything he will need for the day. I know about a lot of the popular trout flies and have tied many, but I am trying to gather comprehensive list of both wet and dry flies to take with me. All of your suggestions are welcome, I will probably be tying up 4-6 of anything that is suggested. I'm not necessarily looking for anything "Dukes' Specific" because it is just trout fishing after all, but more along the lines of what your favorite brown and rainbow flies are. Nymphs, streamers, classic dries, weird attractors, interesting wet flies to consider?

Some game wardens will run a piece of tippet across a mashed barb to check and see if it has been flattened completely.

Flies will be going out tomorrow.

I like this pattern. You can probably use a little different body color if you had a darker deer hair too.

An Ebay search yields two results, the first for 1000 in size 4 and the other and the for 100 in size 6. I hope this helps. Also, the new stock numbering for the old 3399N hooks is now 3399-GL.

This is a hopper pattern I tied up the other day. Hook: GC2312 size 10 Body: Poly Yarn Rib: Orange Ultra Wire Legs: Knotted Peccary Wing: Turkey Wing Feather Extra legs, antenna, and underwing: Crystal Flash Dubbed head. I was able to fish it this weekend and caught ten fish in just under fifteen minutes before it started falling apart. The wire and poly yarn combination kept the hopper suspended under the water's surface about two inches. I tied a few with orange floss instead of wire, and used super fine dubbing for the head and it kept afloat on the surface very well. The bass and bream loved it, I'm curious to see if the trout will take it too. I'll probably end up adding some hackle between the wing and head for added buoyancy on the freestone streams when I try for trout.

Thank you for your feedback. You were right about the caddis, it had a very tough time staying afloat on the water this afternoon. I forgot to measure the hackle on the mayflies so that explains my issues there. Thank you for the proportion link, that helps a whole lot.

These are a few of the first flies I've tied. I have tied less than a dozen so far. The very first flies were very lumpy, and I think that had a lot to do with the thread I was using (210 denier purchased before I knew any better). Now with a bobbin of 6/0 the materials are laying better. I'd love any feed back y'all have on these flies.

I'm just about to start tying myself. My vise should be arriving in the post tomorrow and I can say I have been watching every single video I can find on Youtube in preparation. I love all of the Davie McPhail videos, because they are so detailed and include a lot of general tips and tidbits about the various materials. I would highly suggest checking out the 'tightlinevideo' channel on Youtube as well. The videos from 'tightlinevideo' are very detailed in terms of instruction, and he outlines his tying techniques very well. They are typically shorter than Davie's videos but the flies are usually just as detailed.
