  1. Cahir caddis, evergreen pupa, soft hackle dry midge, skittering egg-laying caddis, egg-laying diving caddis, ice Pheasant, pheasant tail soft hackle with bead thorax, and hare's ear soft hackle with bead thorax All from Allen McGee's book fly fishing soft hackles, albeit not so nicely tied as his... made it up to eastern sierras tonight for four days...
  2. Their matching reel is affordable too. Not as satisfactory as the rod (line gets caught between reel and spool too often), but it's light and quiet.
  3. I like the Echo Base I bought in similar circumstances for about $80...
  4. How about just doing one specific type of material per swap, in good and only partly used condition, like rooster necks/saddles, hen necks/saddles, etc. or maybe 5 spools of something smaller like ultra wire or thread or Antron, hair, Flash, etc in different colors
  5. Done! What address do I send to, and do I send 12 flies or 13? cb27
  6. Here's a link to the article: https://www.google.com/amp/s/donbastianwetflies.com/2012/03/11/bronze-mallard-wings-part-ii/amp/ And here's a link to the posting on ft forum: http://www.flytyingforum.com/index.php?showtopic=82062 Thanks again for the help! cb27
  7. Thanks Flytire, I also found a series of posts from a few years back from you and others helping with tying a similar wing on the professor. You provided a link to some Don Bastion materials that were realty helpful cb27
  8. Got rid of the concave wing. Much better
  9. Here's my first Luzerne, compared to the photo display. I used Pearsall's silk thread instead of polyester floss, on the theory the Pearsall's will look better wet. I used a chrome hook but the black hook photographs much better... not sure the fish will notice. I tied my mallard flank in a bunch at the top... maybe I need to mix the bunch together first so the feathers don't all concave up... I'll try that and see... Any other tips to get this looking better are appreciated... cb
  10. That would imply I'm perfectly capable of putting something down that I've started, before I've finished...
  11. Thanks for the info, I'll hunt some down and either use naturals or leave them off
  12. Just got back from Bob Marriott's for materials... Man is that place a fly tier's dream come true... Anyway, the Brora pattern I picked calls for jungle cock eyes on the sides, and it's apparently banned. I picked up some synthetic substitutes, but before I start tying I thought I should check in and see if everyone's fine with that, or maybe someone knows of a better, natural substitute.
  13. I'm in but can I pick a pattern tomorrow?
  14. see, even just talking about it we got tangled
  15. "Use your dry fly" was meant to be, Use your dry fly as your indicator for the nymph.
  16. Easy way to try it is to tie a 18" -24" tippet to the hook bend of your attractor style high floating dry fly and tie a lightly weighted or non weighted nymph to the end of that 18-24" tippet. Use your dry fly. Another good way to try it is to tie an emerger dropper to a dry fly of the same type of fly. If you're like me, you'll get twice as many tangles, lose twice as many flies as you otherwise do, degrade your presentation quality in half, and spend three times as much time setting up a new rig as before; and f the fish aren't biting you still won't catch many, but if they are you still will, and probably still just on the one fly they want.
  17. I'll second you on this book PT. I recently had a ton of fun with his soft hackle wet/dry grasshopper, of all things.... He's got some great ideas in here. It's like he's re-imagined the wet fly.
