Welcome to the site from and OLD born and bred central NYer. I've been tying for over 50 years and hosting fly swaps for the past 13+. I can keep myself warm by tying AND I have 4 wine trails within a 2 hour drive (with some right in my backyard!) - now THAT'S' warm! If you'd like some pattern ideas feel free to join one of my swaps, they are open to all level tyers and swaps are 1 of 3 ways to effectively learn how to tie (classes and sitting down with a more experienced tyer being the other two. You get at least 6 and up to 12 other patterns and you get one to test drive on your home waters - and who's vote is more important than the fish's! I can also provide extra assistance to newer tyers including a set or two of suggested patterns for you to tie, tips/tricks/traps to avoid when tying your chosen pattern, and feedback to you on your ties including where you did well and where you could improve (along with specific, simple steps on how you can make the improvement). Either way I do look forward to seeing your posts and if you'd like my Fly Swaps 101 notes just ask and I'll be happy to send them to you - the wine you'll have to find yourself!π Kim

I usually ask for 6 minimum on my swaps, I'm OK with this number. Besides, I figured on tying 3 patterns anyway - I can never make up my mind so I handle it like a buffet and say yes to it all! Kim

You know me, I figured on using BOTH services colors to represent the best rivalry game in the country. I'm also tying a couple other flies for the theme as well (OH, those creative juices are flowing!). The hint for one is 222-0 the other is for a school in Carlisle with some Pop! Kim

I'll take my 10% recruiting fee!π Kim

I think that I've got my TBA, here's a hint - GO ARMY BEAT NAVY! Kim
-
Count me in. I'll let you know the teams as TBA, OK? Kim

Hoping that we would get more with an extra week. I'll call this 1 way or the other on Monday (11th). Thanks for checking in with me. Kim

You mean that you do NOT have every tying material known to man and womanπΆ! Everyone has their own tying niche and you ow NO apologies for it my friend! Maybe we can hook-up on the next swap. Kim
-
A fly tyer that's "all tied up"! I like it!!π You know me, there'll be another swap down the line and thanks for letting me know. Kim
-
We need 3 more to hold this swap - any other interest out there? Kim
-
Three more needed, anyone interested? Kim

Need 3 more tyers and this swap is a go. Who's interested? Kim

Welcome to the site! It's loaded with many fine tyers, fishers, rod builders and teachers. If you are interested in swapping flies I have a nice swap that is open right now. The Kermit Swap - frog patterns and if you are new to swaps and would like a nice "Fly Swaps 101" lesson I'd be happy to help you out. I've been hosting swaps for 13+ years and tying flies for over 50 years. My swaps are open to ALL level tyers and I do provide a fly tying gift or 2 to all swap participants. Either way, have fun and i look forward to your posts! Kim

Welcome to the site! I've been tying for over 50 years now and hosting fly swaps for 13+ years now. I've got a nice non-trout swap theme open right now - The Kermit Swap - frog patterns! Check out the "Swaps and Contests" section of this site My swaps are open to all level/experience tyers and for newer tyers I can help suggest a few patterns that you'd like to tie, a list of tips/tricks on how to tie with your pattern choice, and provide feedback to help you to improve your tying. Also, all swappers get a fly tying tying gift from me as well. Since you have been tying for less than a year ANY swaps on this site are hosted by fine and experienced hosts that could help you develop into a better tyer in the future. If you have any questions on how simple swaps are to join in just let me know - I'll be happy to answer any questions/concerns that you might have. Again, welcome to the site. You'll find it is loaded with many fine tyers, fishers, rod builders and teachers. Lastly, have fun! Kim

Hey, like I've said before - sometimes life just gets in the way of a good swap! Kim
-
No problem Bob. Catch you on the flip. Kim
-
Thanks Tom. The only bad thing that happened is my eyesight is better! Now i have to come up with a different excuse for my ugly ties! Kim
-
You are in and glad to swap with you again!
-
Sounds good and good luck with your moves! I appreciate the good wishes, Thanks! _Tails and Bryon you are both in with your chosen patterns and Woodenlegs just let me know so I can reserve a spot for you. It's good to be back. Kim My book is just about ready to be written, just waiting for ~a dozen books to come in through interlibrary loan. Now if I can bottle up what keeps passing through this otherwise empty head of mine!

Someday we'll find it/ The rainbow connection/ The Lovers, the Dreamers, and me. - Kermit the Frog Well I'm FINALLY BACK! Heading in to the doctor to get my new prescription for glasses after the eye surgeries. Had a bit of a complication that delayed my return (has anyone ever heard of a cold sore on the eye!) but I'm now ready to hit the road and start hosting swaps again. By my crazy title I think you've guessed the theme FROG patterns! Unlike me the fish will eat EVERYTHING on the frog, not just the legs. Registration will close Monday, September 4th or when we reach 12 registrants. The flies will be due by Wednesday, September 20th. As with all my swaps this swap is open to ALL level tyers and newer tyers are MOST WELCOME! If you fall into this category OR are new to swaps, please let me know as I can provide additional assistance to to make your swap tying experience a great one! The checklist of what you need to send me: - your flies WITH toe tags (including your screen name and name of pattern), - your fly swap box (again with your screen name on it - getting 5 Altoids boxes without names can be CHALLENGING!), a SASE (so I can send you your set of flies back), and your sending envelope. I do accept money or check to cover return postage -if you don't have enough postage stamps. Lastly - HAVE FUN!! 1 -Chasing_Tails - Gurgler Frog 2 - Bryon Anderson - STP Frog 3 - vicrider 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 10 - 11 - 12 -

One trick I like to do with bead chain eyes - don't cut the eyes until the 2 end beads have a couple cross-wraps on the hook. With my old, fat fingers this saves me looking around my bench for them when I drop them! (Maybe every 8 /12 out of 10 times!) Holding the entire bead chain while starting the thread wraps just gives more to hang on to. Nice vid on a great, easy to tie and effective pattern! Kim
