  1. Dave, My father was a machinist and that was his tool box. After he died I inherited the box, and as a fly tyer...need I say more?
  2. We just got home from the Dollar Tree and they had it in the area with all the stationary supplies. Different thicknesses too.....
  3. Tip of the day...get the foam board at the Dollar Store...for you guessed it...$1.00. That's what I do and it is the same as you will get at any of the office supply places.
  4. Sandan - I do not tie with scissors in hand, just something I've never gotten into. Works for some folks, but not for me. The scissors are Dr. Slick "Bent Shaft Scissors" and for me at least...once I started using them I rarely use anything else. I have both the small arrow point and the heavier standard point versions. Well worth the moneyπŸ‘πŸ‘Œ
  5. flytire - I hope I didn't steal any of the thunder from your post and that sweet tying area of yours. Yea...we all need to do a little bit of making the spot neater and cleaner when finished whatever is on the agenda for the vise.
  6. I freely admit to being certifiable when it comes to my tying desk...specifically about light and bright. When we moved our current home 16 years ago I went looking for a piece of matte finish white Corian to cover the simple IKEA flat top desk I was using to tie on. All the big box places would sell was a full sheet, which lead me to an internet search and I found a place that custom cut the stuff for boats, docks and piers - specifically for use as fish cleaning and bait prep areas. End result was a piece cut to my specs of 32" x 47.5". It arrived 3 days later and I am still working on this damned near indestructible surface. It makes for a bright well lit work space and the matte finish is easy on the eyes. A little pricey for sure but 16 years later I will tell you it was money well spent!!! Oh yea - I've also added a photo my secret special source of tying inspiration - 😎
  7. I don't have any pictures, but you can obviously do the same with the jaws on either of the Renzettis I own. I've never done this, but next time on some small flies I sure will. My tying room/office has a door as well...with a lockπŸ‘ We don't have any children, therefore none of the little urchins either...and no complaints 😁
  8. As a foot note to all of the TRV discussion. I have 2 Renzetti vises. The Master I've already mentioned and an older Presentation 2000 (2004 as it was called then to be exact). I refer to it as my "Mini-Master" because of the ability to pivot the head. The interesting thing is I tried some larger hooks to see what happens on the 2004, and as per the Renzetti web site it easily held a 4/0 securely and even larger sizes including the needed protective plastic to preserve the finish on those expensive handmade custom blind eye salmon hooks. Obviously one's choice of vise is purely personal...so whatever works for you and your budget allows...go for it !!!!!
  9. Great looking setup Mogup. The tying space we all need and enjoy as our escape place.
  10. Kimo, You are so right about the ungrateful/thankless job for the mods. Been there done that as they say...so I appreciate all they do. However...if they're getting a 6 figure salary and a corner office overlooking the river...I want to apply for a job 😎😁 I always remember this quote from Albert Einstein - "The difference between genius and stupidity is genius has its limits." - so I just ignore the small stuff. Petri Heil, George
  11. Very interesting moment regarding this. If I go straight to this site I must do what I said earlier...right click on the desired page, then open it as a new tab or window. However...if I open a subject via an email response to a post I'm following there are no issues going from page to page. As a total non-techie, this is a mystery to me...but one way or another I manage to get the job done on this fine site.
  12. Just like Regal, I tried them...and they didn't do it for me. A vise is a personal choice and the Renzetti Master I bought last month is all I will ever need.
  13. LOL 😁😁 Yes we are very cranky...part of the fun..........
  14. You are no doubt right Mark, and I'm not about to shell out $500+ then start in on the jaws with a file or whatever. My Master is working out just super.......
  15. One more thing to add...I contacted a seller on Amazon with 3 TRV's in stock and they told me none of them would accommodate the hooks I specified. I know I'm not exactly slumming it with the Renzetti Master, but I had high hopes for that HMH TRV. Oh well, at least the issue is settled it my head. Perhaps in the future...you never know.
  16. I also have this issue on my laptop. I'm using Google Chrome like so many others. What I started doing was right click on the next page number then opening it as another tab. A small pain in the ass, but it does work. However I would like to see the issue fixed.
  17. Classic beauty, and I do like your work.
  18. THAT is a fish catcher...and well tied too!!
  19. I'll second Pete's post with a couple of photos of what I have. Nice bobbin...but...for me I found I wished it were a little shorter. It has a nice heft to it which helps hold materials in place when it is just hanging there and is comfortable in hand.
  20. flytire - What is the vintage of your TRV? Just curiosity on my part.....
  21. Your body work is much improved on this one Landon P!!! Very nicely done....
  22. Thanks folks...much obliged!!
