  8. 8000 lakes to fish and you're inside watching fishing shows? I just might retire in Florida and get to fishing!
  9. You haven't read the pissing match about protected feathers in the "I found a feather" thread? http://www.flytyingforum.com/index.php?showtopic=79171&page=4&do=findComment&comment=601088 Fyi: strollers Jay is protected by US laws Google "migratory bird act" then decided if you want to tie with those feathers If you do, be creative. Experiment!
  10. Ed, I'll second that This thread is becoming a bottomless pit of bullshit (in my opinion)
  11. me either! i just made them up this morning!
  12. use the proper colored hackle(s) for your museum flies or use whatever you like for fishing flies. who really cares? what i tie with is totally irrelevant to anybody else
  13. Here is my take on fly photography http://flytyingnewandold.blogspot.ca/2011/01/my-take-on-fly-photography.html my simple steup
  14. as silly as it seems, its still a law that's on the books. only you can decide to respect it or not. just like all of the asinine "blue laws" that have no purpose in todays society will the law be enforced if you pick up a few feathers in the back yard or out in the forest I seriously doubt it. just don't brag about your precious find on forums and bulletin boards only you can determine the value of a single or a few feathers. the ones under my bird feeder have absolutely no value for my tying needs. 1 or 2 feathers 2 inches long x 1/2 inches wide (if that) isn't worth picking up. what would happen if we didn't have the act to protect wildlife? people would shoot everything they see (like a 100 years ago) and then no more wildlife
  15. can anyone explain what the factors were that happened (in the US), to have them passed into law?? just curious....... The Weeks–McLean Act was a law of the United States sponsored by Representative John W. Weeks ® of Massachusetts and Senator George P. McLean ® of Connecticut that prohibited the spring hunting and marketing of migratory birds and the importation of wild bird feathers for women's fashion, ending what was called “millinery murder”. It gave the Secretary of Agriculture the power to set hunting seasons nationwide, making it the first U.S. law ever passed to regulate the shooting of migratory birds. It became effective on 4 March 1913 but, because of a constitutional weakness, was later replaced by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918. eagles http://www.fws.gov/midwest/midwestbird/EaglePermits/index.html more info http://www.nps.gov/nr/travel/massachusetts_conservation/Nineteenth_Century_Trends_in_%20American_Conservation.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lacey_Act_of_1900
