zOnk 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2013 Tied up some foam head-dahlbergs today and the bass seemed to love them tonight. The foam is tons faster than spinning and trimming the entire head. Dives on the strip and returns quickly to the surface. I should also mention the shank is also foam (down and back), which really helps keep the fly buoyant. C LeBo 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2013 Ok I know that this really can"t be considered as a fly but nevertheless I'll post it. I was trying ( and failing) at making a hot glue egg but couldnt figure out for life of me how to get the darn glue on right... then I saw some airsoft BB's... so I heated the hook til it was red then melted one of those on there... Enjoy! Thank youand Tight Lines, Carson LeBoeuf
sunsignarcher 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2013 Is it ok to do that to a hook? Will heating that much weaken it?
Piker20 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2013 My thoughts too. It is an interesting result but keen to see how brittle the hook is now. Can you not thread a fine mono through bead and tie that down? Or heat a needle hot to melt a slit and then use glue to fix to hook??
Crackaig 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2013 Well done Carson a good use of soft air pellets. (The last person to point a soft air gun at me got 37 9mm rounds back before we found out it wasn't a real gun). If you have hot melt glue available then just cut a slot in the pellet and use the hot melt glue to fix it in place. There is some creative use of hot melt glue here. Have a look around the site there are more hot melt glue patterns on there. No egg patterns but the techniques are there you may find out how to do it from them. Cheers, C. djmyers 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2013 The group of poppers I had fun painting. These were my favorites out of the group.
sunsignarcher 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2013 Took me awhile to get these right(ish). I had a crap grizzly cape I've been fightin with that finally got replaced. The difference between that first cape and the one I just bought is w/o a doubt the most valuable fly tying lesson I've learned so far. Now that I have the new grizzly cape though I'm totally out of smaller sizes in the brown . So I've got a 16 Adams w/14 hackle. Oh well. I'm callin this fly done and moving on to the next one in cravens book. Rusty spinner.

Moscow 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2013 Steelheaders around here have been melting plastic beads onto hooks for years without any adverse effect on the hook. Is it ok to do that to a hook? Steiner 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2013 Been tying up some Fran Betters standards. I enjoy tying up his patterns, a lot. I still have trouble getting calf tail wings proportioned to my liking. I'd prefer them a bit shorter, but I feel like they'd be too sparse then. #14 Usual # 18 Haystack #12 Ausable Wulff Also tied up some of Hans Weilenmann's CDC & Elk. Cutthroats are supposed to like the chartreuse.
