Here's a great fly for those of you soft hackle addicts that are looking for a unique nymph pattern that has great emerger characteristics. The other side of this is that the pattern is intended as a caddis, but can be easily adapted into a mayfly with the addition of a tail (which can be removed when on the stream). The fly is turning into a big seller for Orvis, hence my desire to make a video to share with all.

The fly is called the Holy Grail nymph, and is definitely one that you can create many variations of. Enjoy!

His first time tying THESE flies. Eide is a MASTER craftsman with his tying.

Eide ... I'd make some joke about your Royals at this point, but I can't, they're pretty good!!!

Thanks!

It is not a very complicated pattern, I followed this SBS: http://www.swedneckflyfishing.com/royalwulff_steps.htm - the hardest part is to get a nice and evenly split wing of calf hair (or just use CDC, works just as fine)

Tctrout, I posted a holy grail last month and have tied up and gone through nearly 3 doz in the past weeks w/ the insane caddis hatches we've had here and in the Catskills.

Killer pattern for sure. The only change I needed to make was to replace the Mylar w/wire. It was just to fragile and seemed to tear or break and come off for no reason sometimes. Every color combo and bead choice worked! PT, turkey and peacock all did well as a wing case. If I had to pick a favorite it was black w/a silver wire, nickle bead and turkey over top. A prominent red head I think added a lot to the pattern also

Nice video.
