Fly Tying

Recommended Posts

Good tie. However, I used to cut the legs off my poppers. Got tired of bluegill grabbing the leg and pulling it under with no hookup.

Thanks!

Lots of green stuff making it tough to fish but the grasshopper seems to keep working! Caught several Bass and Bluegill, and one Sunfish. All went for a Grasshopper. Crossing our fingers the City puts the "blue stuff" in the water to slow the green stuff from growing! Today's Video.

Foam grasshopper again!

Fished a local pond that we had not fished in a ling time. Good to see the Bass and Bluegill are still there! Did have a couple of others go for Bluegill on the line but they chased the fish instead of eating it. Did get some video of one of the Bass "looking" at a Bluegill on the line. Did not have a polarized filter but in the video you can get a glimpse of the Bass... nice one; moreover, it was one of the smaller ones! Today's Video.

PS: Posted the picture on the Fishing Bulletin Board.

Another round at the local pond, caught more Bluegill and Sunfish using a Foam Grasshopper. Not as big as yesterday but did get a nice Bruiser Bass that went 19" in size. Posted pictures on the Fishing Bulletin Board and got some action shots posted in the YouTube video. Today's Video. Bluegill went for a Grasshopper, Bass went for the Bluegill like yesterday but this time, we were able to bring the Bass in! Fun stuff on a 4 weight!

Tested the two-piece Micro Fly Rod with good results yesterday! Post. Worked well in combination with the Foam Grasshopper! Did hit a feeder creek today; working on the video. Foam Grasshopper did well here too!

Went with the Foam Grasshopper and caught a number of Bluegill and Sunfish. Did get several Bass to look at our fishing fly, but all opted to move on instead of strike. Lots of brush made it tough on casting, good thing we practiced roll casting last year. Came in handy this round! Yesterday's Video.

Fished Saturday. Caught about 20+ fish. Largest fish was a Bass that went about 14". Used a variant of the Foam Grasshopper and a Saddle Hackle Streamer. Caught all but one fish on the Foam Grasshopper! Lotta fun on a 2WT Fiberglass Rod!

The smaller size Foam Grasshopper coupled with the Two Weight fiberglass fly rod did well this evening. Caught twelve bass and lost several others. No Bruisers - largest went about 13". Still lotta fun as even these little Bass put a great bend in the rod! Today's Video

Tried a new pond this round. Had passed by this little pond in the past but never stopped to fish it. On a whim decided to give it a try. Caught little Bass and Bluegill using the scaled down Foam Grasshopper. No Bruiser but still lots of fun! Today's Video.

Tied a Tenkara Fly in a reverse hackle Olive Body and White Hackle pattern. For ease of reference, calling it an Olive/White Tenkara Fly. Lost the fly to a Bass but did end today's round with eleven fish - one on the Tenkara Fly and ten on the Foam Grasshopper. Fun stuff... will get more Tenkara Flies tied for another round of "testing" Today's Video.

Tested the Tenkara Fly. Caught one with it, then caught the remainder on a Foam Grasshopper. Green stuff clobbering the area made it tough to use the Tenkara Fly. Fun stuff catching Bluegill on their beds! Today's Video.

Playing around with the camera and green screen. Put together Vlog #1 that shows the action at Sonic Pond using the Traditional III Fly Rod from Cabelas and a Foam Grasshopper! Video. Good to see the grasshopper pattern still works on Bass!

I mean no offense but I suspect most anything would work in that fish bowl you fish at. Get out on some open water someplace and see what happens, that's not much of a test there.. On the other hand with all that grass around and being Aug. I bet terrestrials abound at that location.
