February Flies from the Vice

Recommended Posts

Yeah, I fish pyramid a lot. I'm going out next week actually. It's a great spot. if you scroll through the fish pictures thread over in the "fly fishing" section of the forum you will see a bunch of pics I posted of pyramid. I definitely recommend it to anyone that loves the thought of catching a 25 pound trout on a fly, it's been happening every year for a few years now and should only get better with the true strain of LCT introduced and there water rights recently allowing the lake level to be higher.

Anyways if you wanna talk more pm me.

Miles

Hey what's up everyone. I'm new to the forum and have only been tying for a few months. But here's a few pics of my first ever articulated flies! Let me know what you think. Glad to be a part of a great site as well thanks!

Looking good bud!

I tied these last night ... one of the guys in the class wanted something heavy enough to suspend below a float (strike indicator) since he doesn't fly fish.

Mostly though ... I am still playing with this camera. These are the same from earlier pictures, but a little better focus ... brighter lighting.

D-rib nymphs

Fluffy Nymph (using the fluff at the base of the feather for "hackle".

Size 14 ... white fluffy scud and green Gold Butt Brassie

There Mike, fixed that for ya. I like the use of fluff on a fly. I just throw it all away. Like the green butt brassies too.

Keith Waters' "Butt Snatcher" fly. (He tied his with pink, tho.)

Hook: GCO 2312 sz 14
Bead/Eyes: n/a
Thread: UTC 70d Black
Tail: N/A
Tag: Uni Floss 2X (divided to 1 strand) Chartreuse
Abdomen: Uni Floss 1X Black with Grizzly Hen Hackle trimmed to 1/8" long palmered over it.
Rib: (Should be fine silver wire, counter-wrapped. I left it off)
Legs: N/A
Thorax: N/A
Hackle: Black Hen spade hackle

Now I just need 14 more for a swap. Wait! 15! I have to have the rib on them!

Of course I have to put some of these in.

Something I have been using for a couple of seasons, a snowshoe bunny caddis.

Then for a change of pace.

That's the Blue Elver Fly, with the original Vulturine Guineafowl.

Cheers,

I went to a tying meet at Dupage Fly Fishing Co., with richmc, last Thursday evening. My memory sucks, so hopefully rich can remember the name of this fly, and perhaps, the name of the tyer who led the evening.

They really make use of the features of FTD's Sea Dragon Dubbing.

this is a salt water fly I've tied this winter for the spring/fall run. It is bucktail, Rooster Saddle Badger, on a Mustad stainless steel 1/0.

Tell me what you think.
