add147 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2015 Another rainy day in East Texas! For the past several years Texas has been in a severe drought but I think we have finally turn the corner, all the lakes in East Texas are full. Anyway since it is rainy day it is a good time to be in front of the fly tying bench. Here's a Clouser I tied with red painted bead chain eyes.
add147 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2015 Earlier this month I went to the Smallmouth Rendevzous and Fly Tying Extravaganza hosted by the Northeastern Oklahoma Fly Fishing Club in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. I took my 70 year old Dad with me and had a great time. This was his second fly tying type deal to go to so maybe he is beginning to think about taking up the hobby. We went on a Friday so there was not that many folks there from the public since it was a work day. We pretty much had to place to ourselves and watched several tiers. Listen to a few folks that put on some seminars. Anyway I watch one tier and I lost his card so I do not know his name but he was tying these type flies using Eagle Claw Lazer Sharp O'Shaughnessy Hooks Size 2 which are found just about at any Wal-Mart. He used a soldering iron to melt hot glue sticks that one can get from any craft store and placed the glue on the hook. Got to have a pretty steady hand to do this but it isn't that hard and you have be careful not to touch the thread of your fly. I did that do I had to start over! It will melt the thread and poof there goes your fly. Pretty neat looking fly I thought for Bass. I used some gold braiding used to tie bows that I got at Wal-Mart in the craft section, some white ostrich feathers, and chartreuse deer tail hair.
