Kimo 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2015 What is the throat material on these flies, Kimo? Ray, Dyed Peacock. I like the stuff from Spirit River and Hareline. The Hareline stuff only comes red, black and natural. The Nature's Spirit stuff is okay but they overcooked it in the dying process and much of the "sparkle" has burned away. Great for abdomens though. Kimo

Dave G. 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2015 Trying to make a fish-able representation of this ... conocephalus.jpg I came up with this ... Katydid (1).JPG Mike, I don't know what the hind leg material is but if you can knot it you will come even closer ! That would give the legs knees like the original. mikechell 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2015 I thought about doing that, Dave. But then I thought like a fish and figured it won't make a difference.

mikechell 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2015 Sweet deer hair work, Goose.
Goose77 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2015 Mike and bulb...thank you. Bulb, most of my bugs take 1 to 1 1/2 hours to make. The floating minnow has a bucktail deceiver for a tail...that takes 20 minutes or so. The deerhair bodies usually take 30 to 60 minutes depending on how many colors are used. Trimming is another 20 to 30 minutes...and I use templates. I'm no good at freehand work, unlike Cream and Deerhairdan...those guys are VERY good. Cementing faces on poppers takes hours to dry properly...Mike described a great way to do this. No complaints from me on the time it takes...I love it. Thanks again, Ed
