SilverCreek 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2018 I bought 5 bulk spools of lead fly tying wire over 20 years ago in sizes 0.015 - .035 in .005" increments. If your friend is afraid of running out he can still buy it in 1 lb spools. https://www.bobmarriottsflyfishingstore.com/lead-wire-1lb-bulk-spool
chugbug27 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2018 If he wants a thinner profile than .010 there is also some flattened lead or tungsten available at online shops like competitive angler.
Flicted 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2018 Zonker strips can be sliced into strips and wound on the hook shank. Much cheaper than wire, easier to taper, easier to control thickness. You can cut the strip into a triangle and start at the point and mold it into a smooth taper.
flytire 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2018 Zonker strip replacing lead wire on the size 12 requested in post 1?
Flicted 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2018 Oh sure. Bring up the original post will ya. Why I oughta... Sorry. As I read through the rest of the comments, I lost track of the original question. Unless you sliced the strip pretty thin, the strips wouldn't really be a benefit over wire.
