March 2019 Flies From the Vise

Um ... except you didn't tie up any clear/light tan colors. Any time I've been around salt water, on shallow, super clear, sand bottom waters, the shrimp and bait fish are very light colored, too.

What you've got looks great ... but you need to do some white/clear/light tan (sand) colors.

These are for FW,but I agree,I do need some of those as well

Loving the soft hackles in this thread...they rate right up there with classic Salmon flie ties for me.

So simple, classic and effective....we dont fish them enough.

Oooo Fresh Water !!! My favorite kind !!! In that case, you need to do a few without weight. Bead chain eyes at the most. Most of the lakes, ponds and rivers here are less than 12 feet deep. Six feet deep is a good hole in a lot of the water. And there's so much vegetation turn over that the bottom of many areas are a few inches of muck. Too heavy, and a fly/lure can disappear in the bottom.

Fish catching box o' flies, Tom.

Impressive that you just have cash scattered around. Do you "splash around" in it like "Scrooge McDuck"?

Today I tied a variation on the Ed Shenk streamer - with all synthetic materials. Angel hair over Fly Fur for the tail and Estaz Pearl chenille with barbell eyes. My fly tied equivalent of a Mr. Twister jig for smallmouth.

Tomorrow black and Root Bear.
