chugbug27 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2020 I didn't like the too-white stripe that runs down the stripped brown hackle quill (where the barbs are stripped off) on the red quill spinners I'm tying (posted recently), so I decided to hand dye some hackle quills. Thank you Scott for your help with that. Never dyed before. Red Quill Down Wing Spinner, with hand dyed hackle quill RIT powder dye mixture: 1.5 parts cocoa, 1 part tangerine Here's a close-up of the difference, with dye and without... Not a huge difference, but the color is there and the white glare is gone. While I was at it I dyed some deer hair (not bleached) while I was at it.
