mty1 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2019 Well, you asked for it. I'm definitely a new tyer. I am very talented at making other people feel really good about their fly tying skills. This is called a Bread and Butter fly. I learned about it on the https://troutbitten.com/ website: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmJBd2izjW4 I was actually feeling pretty good about my fly until I blew it up several sizes larger than life size. I have new found respect for the fly tyers who display their work on the internet. I'm looking forward to learning a lot on this site.

utyer 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2019 NOT an new tier by any means, but these are some of my first (and WORST,) flies. Found the pictures while cleaning out my computer files. Have no idea where the flies are now. I'll post them so no new tiers will be embarrassed to post their first efforts. All of us more experienced or "Advanced" members started somewhere, I would encourage new members to post and ask for constructive input. Through the years I did get a little better: But sometimes UGLY works:
utyer 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2019 After almost 8 years of tying mostly saltwater flies, I needed to brush up my skills on trout size patterns, and see if I could still tie these little guys. My cripple pattern in size 14: And a size 20 Gnat:
xvigauge 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2019 That 2nd fly in post #7 looks like a Breadcrust. It would work well here in east Tennessee. Joe

FishnPhil 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2019 My flies are generally not very nice, haha, but I post. Has led to receiving some really awesome advice, tips, and tricks. Mty1, I was definitely humbled after doing close ups and zooming in on my flies, lol! I tried up some for lake fishing, some with Solarez, some plain... xvigauge 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2019 #2 in post #7 is closer to a brown hackle peacock than a breadcrust both should work any where Remember, I wrote that it "looked" like a Breadcrust, NOT that it was one. In your photo I can definitely see that the body is peacock hurl. For the Breadcrust body, in my version, I use partridge tail and wing feathers (and sometimes quail) soaked and split the same way you would use the grouse (which are harder for me to get) tail feathers. They look close enough to the original version of the Breadcrust that the fish can't tell the difference. Joe
