  1. Here's a few of my deer hair sliders. I don't get the variety that Capt. Bob does ( mostly trout and reds ) but I love sight casting the flats with these in knee deep water. Nothing more exciting than surface explosions. The trout pictured is my best yet at 28" and very fat. She was only about 20' away when she slammed it.
  2. Shrimp are one of my favorite flies to fish. But I'm still on a deer hair slider kick. Here's one way off the norm for me as far as colors go. Tied on a 1/0 Owner Mosquito hook. I will post the results if somebody grabs it.
  3. For me needle fish tend to tear up my flies, ripping the hackles off my seaducers etc. However they themselves are good bait for trout and snook. Never caught a snook on one yet but have caught trout to seven pounds on some I have tied.
  4. You are not allowed to tie a worm to a hook and call it realistic fly tying. How did you get it to hold still long enough to tie it on? Awesome job for sure.
  5. Young man appears to have talent and motivated to work with his hands when soooo many younguns today would prefer to sit and play with their devices than actually do something useful and constructive and maybe get their little hands dirty. Don't pay any attention to the naysayers. Thumbs up for your buddy.
  6. After a good spring the grass started filling in so I tied some deer hair sliders to slide over the grass. Results have been good to include a 28" sea trout, my best ever on any tackle. She was barely hooked and made for an easy release. The one with the fly way down it's mouth came home for dinner. How about you guys also showing the flies that caught those fish. Nice bass Kimo. What did they eat?
  7. Just because a rod is stiff does not mean it's fast. You can stretch a rubber band out and let it go and it will recoil fast. Surfers use a leash that when stretched out recoils slow so as not to get slammed by the board rocketing back. Hence just because a rod is stiff does not necessarily mean it's faster. A moderate action rod may actually recover quite fast compared to some feelingless stiff rods. As silver creek said find what feels good to you.
  8. How about a packed dear hair punk rocker?
  9. That's what I did with a couple but didn't want to waste my time if it wasn't necessary. Thanks
  10. Hey! Question for you guys familiar with the Owner Mosquito hooks. I just got my order and discovered they are offset. Do you straighten or use as is?
  11. Hmmm, if I saw some clown on the stream wearing a pink shirt before I ever got close enough to see his rod I'd probably think "What kind of Azzhole wears a pink shirt fly fishing". I do how ever have a couple nice pink dress shirts and always get complements from the ladies when wearing them with a nice suit.
  12. Very nice. Love the translucent blue blank. Who makes that blank Steve?
  13. I know more of you guys are tying out there. Post up your work. We would like to see it.
  14. agn54 thanks for reminding me about the Mosquito hooks. Last week at a fly club meeting a local here who has caught well over a 1000 ditch and canal tarpon said his hookup ratio increased dramatically when he switched to them. He ties all sizes for fish from a few inches up to maybe 20 lbs. plus in the back water areas. The rest of your list is good reference too.
  15. That reminds me I need t order more C47's myself. Never had a problem with them. Caught my biggest red (42") on a C68 size 2. I also use Gamakatsu SC15, it's a light wire like C47. Owner Flyliner is a also a great one and a little heavier like C68. I tie all my baitfish imitations on the above hooks. Depending on the size and or how fast or slow dictates which hook I'll use.
  16. Also if you original photo is too large you may need to resize it smaller.
  17. Thanks for the complements. Yes those larger trout grill nicely and Florida law only allows you to keep four and only one over 20". Most of the trout on the flats are larger because ospreys will get the smaller fish.
  18. Well the sliders are working with the increasing grass. Sadly however I lost the brown grizzly one last week to a very fat trout right off the bat. My 15lb flouro tippet wasn't up to the task, back to 20lb. Went out this morning and blind casting some murky water got a nice 24" trout that swallowed it and a little later a 19". After the sun got a bit higher I moved down some and found cleaner water and as soon as a cloud moved I spotted a nice one coming right at me 30 feet out. I barely got a side arm flip and a few twitches she grabbed it. My biggest yet 28" and fat plus she was barely hooked making for an easy release.
  19. I'm in. Thanks fshng2 for the heads up.
  20. A lot of grass is coming back this year after several years of almost nothing. As a result it is now hard to fish anything that sinks so I decided it was time to tie up a few deer hair sliders. The bottom one has been flats tested which is why the tail feather look skinny. They will look fine once wet again. I prefer the sliders over poppers because they don't make as much disturbance and have really nice action and hang just at the surface.
  21. Go to pensacolafishingforum.com and you will finds loads of stuff for that area.
  22. I primarily wade saltwater flats for trout and reds and usually wear a blue shirt to match the sky on sunny days. On cloudier days I wear more gray colors. Does it work? I've had jumbo sea trout of 7-10lbs come within rods length of me before I saw them (usually from behind) many times when standing still. Impossible to cast w/o them seeing you move but still pretty exciting to see those big girls so close. Once they do get that close your pretty well screwed anyway even after they swim on they wont eat after having checked you out that close.
  23. Please post the results of your sea testing.
