    Sponsored!

A free tee-shirt is a sponsor? We use to call that just a free tee-shirt. I guess times have changed.
  2. I don't fish enough for trout to have 12 but here's my list in order of confidence. These are pretty much all I take and I really have no reason to carry more. 1) bead head hares ear 2) Hares ear 3) elk hair caddis 4) prince nymph 5) Griffiths gnat 6) Green Weenie 7) black midge with silver bead head 8) Al's rat 9) foam ant/beetle 10) ? 11) ? 12) ?
  3. I like you jig? How did you make the gear end. I have made a lot of leaders so I can use the info. Kevin I ripped an old VCR apart and pulled 3 gears out of it. The gears had a shaft shoulder on one side. I drilled holes in plywood to put those shoulders into on the hook side. On the other side I drilled smaller holes and put pins in to support the back of the two end gears. On the center gear, the drive gear, I simply screwed an oversized screw into the back of the gear. The screw acts as the shaft and allows me to power the gearbox with a drill and Phillips bit. I screwed the hook eyes into The gear shoulders on the other side. Hope that makes sense. Here's a link that shows my jig along with how I use it. http://www.flytyingforum.com/index.php?showtopic=82524&hl=furling
  4. Everything is fishing related but not fly tying related. I've posted this stuff at other times but want to see this thread grow. Sorry for the crappy pictures but it's the best I got. My most recent build is my rod wrapper My brush maker A couple wading staffs My fly fishing lanyard that can be worn around the neck or connected to my wader straps My pole lathe used to turn lure bodies Portable tying desk made by my Dad. My most cherished possession. I would save this from a burning house An ice fishing jiggle stick that I use often
  5. My daughter went to rio to watch the Olympics and she loved it. But then again she loved leaving to go to Argentina. I thought it was just because she was looking forward to seeing Argentina but I guess I could be wrong. Welcome.
  6. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, nothing yet but there's always tomorrow.
  7. Nice scuds heavy nets. I only pour lead outside in the back yard or, when pouring small jigs, just outside my garage door but completely outside.
  8. I'm coming clean, I'm a football and flyers hockey fan. I can't fish every day which is why I tie flies and bucktails, furl leaders, pour lead, turn bodies, and this year I'm adding rod wrapping to the list. All of these things except lead pouring I do with a football or hockey game on. Nothing better to kill an evening at home. I tried the hot glue flies and it was nothing short of a mess. After a few stabs at it I gave up. Just not worth the effort and mess for me.
  9. Vic, that's a very nice take on it. I'm still completely uninterested in a hall of fame for southern trout fishing but you make a compelling point.
  10. Puffy paint is great for putting a bright neon colored sighter on the back of beetles and other dark foam flies. For the legs your probably not getting the movement you want because they are solid. try seperating the strands in the thigh area as well. That should make them move a lot better.
  11. Gloves suck, communal warmth of mittens is the ticket. I use wool mittens where the mitten part can be flapped back exposing the four fingers. I keep a hot hand pack in the mitten. When the fingers get cold back in the mitten they go. I have always fished cold weather and look forward to the ice fishing season with the same enthusiasm as the Spring striper run. I've tried every glove out there. It's mittens for me.
  12. I like using SF as little as I can. I like SF blend but I just feel like I'm getting ripped off when I buy it. I think you can get by with about half the material on those flies. There really is no reason to make deceivers out of SF blend unless you like blowing wads of money. The bucktail and especially the hackle will provide all the movement one desires without any hook fouling problems or having your wallet ate out. I like using SF for brush fly bodies but hackle for the tail end of a streamer.
  13. Never even heard of using a can opener motor let alone the entire can opener. Good stuff.
  14. Although I don't use fingerless gloves since it's my fingers that get cold, you did a good job on them. Got a tutorial on making fingerless gloves with a fold back mitten and thumb.
  15. That's the first foam frog that I like. Nice job.
  16. Who needs uv resin. Nice work.
  17. Who cares what it is, what it looks like, or its name. Just whip up a YouTube video and throw it out there. I'm sure there is somebody on the web who has never seen a simple teaser tied in your style.
  18. Three attempts and it's time for a YouTube video? I'd call it a gurgler.
  19. I always say local shops should support its customers not the other way around. My local shop, a 20 minute drive, has lots of empty shelves, limited selection, and high prices. I'm not fervently supporting that. My other local shop, a 45 minute drive, is well stocked and has competitive prices. The difference is the latter also sells on the Internet. If the shop can't roll with the times, support it customers with selection and competitive prices then it should close. I will not feel sorry for them nor will I feel I lost something. A lot of Internet shops are somebody else's local shop. Perhaps local shops should offer wig hair, I would if my customers are looking for cheaper options. I would rather buy my wig hair in a fly shop then have to shop in a wig store because I would always walk out of a fly shop with something I didn't need as well.
  20. I rarely use every material exactly as it's been called for in some recipe. If I have everything great. If I don't then I don't blink an eye at using something else. It really does not matter unless for some weird reason your tying flies to put in a frame with a brass plate paying homage to it.
  21. Just to Let flytier off the hook, I'm the real Davie and That is a wart on my finger.
  22. I can't believe I watched a video on preparing wax. Okay I only watched half of it but it's still a minute lost forever.
  23. Up on the A up down on the B up. I confused myself a number of times on my 2nd attempt.
