  1. Very nice! I love mine to be on the sparse side, I like most of my streamers on the sparse side for that matter.

  3. Thank! And I’ll give the shorter shank a try, I don’t tie many of these but I had to give it a shot, was fun to tie for sure!
  4. Well since I have joined this forum I have always found SBPatt Muddler style flies amazing and have wanted to give it a shot. My first attempt I really think that the hair he uses makes a difference. I used some elk hair that I had on hand. Any advice is welcome! 6. Thank you felt like doing something traditional, been working on just filling my boxes up with standard flies and was getting bored lol. One can only tie so many hare’s ears and Caddis patterns.

  9. I fish them subsurface, I do tye this on a dry fly hook as well but I find fishing spent patterns under the sure face works great. All dead insects will tend to sink at some point so I have a dry and wet version of this on me.
  10. Been a little while, about a week 😂, here is one of my favorite patterns. Spent caddis Thread: UTC 70 black Hook: Alec Jackson covert nymph size 15 Body: Custom squirrel dubbing, natural grey squirrel with short pieces of the ends of natural elk hair and bleached. 11. I share a room right now and am about to get a new desk and some better storage for materials. Looking at a large L shaped desk right now I have to separate benches I made up together in an L shape but they are different hights. Might post a picture tomorrow. Have a question though do you use any type of bug deterrent like cedar or moth balls/crystals in your bins for your natural hair/fur?
  12. Oswego here, our winters are a great excuse for having overflowing fly boxes by spring time!
  13. This is the truth, but if it was easy would it be as rewarding? Or fun?
  14. Lol it was a Christmas gift for my better half, she kindly let me try this out lol
  15. I like that might have to give this one a shot. Bet it would look great as a wolf style as well got me wanting to try this but just started a new batch of hares ear nymphs.

  17. Couple of stick-cased caddis, Charlie Craven recipe. Hook: Alec Jackson Covert nymph size 13 Thread: Black UTC 70 Rib: Rusty Natural Dun (1st pic) Choachmen Brown (2nd pic) both trimmed down to follow the body shape. Body: Peacock hurl Throax: Chartreuse ice dub Collar: Peackock ice dub Head: 3mm black bead The original recipe calls for brown hackle but I have a saddle of this Rusty Natrial Dun hackle and thought that the light and dark mix would look better.
  18. Not sure if if this is a good place to post this but if anyone has access to a Cricut machine you can set cut lines to what ever width you want down to a 1/16 of an inch wide. I did these in 1/8 increments. Gonna make life a lot easier when making flies that need thin skin as a wing case or over the back of caddis nymphs! Got my girlfriends approval first lol.
  19. Last fly before the new year. Elk Hair Caddis. Hook: J.S. #105 size 14 Thread: Cream UTC 70 Hackle: Cream Body: Alpaca Dyed Wine Wing: Bleached Elk Hair Cheers and happy new year!
  20. Very nice! Lazy ties are sometimes the most effective on fish lol. But I do love a good challenging tie.
  21. Well it’s more of an easier way to tie, also I don’t fine that it effects the way it will fish. Also I fish them bouncing off the bottom and the fly will roll and bounce so the wing case will show as it’s rolling on the bottom. I know a ton of people tie jig flies upside down but I don’t find it make a difference to the fish lol. and no big deal I’m happy to answer questions.
  22. I have some experience with air brushing, I have to copic markers and the adaptor for an air brush compressor, I found that they are easier to change colors but the one thing they aren’t as good for is mixing your own custom colors. So o would recommend some cheap air brushes I have a few cheaply made top feed double action ones. Also the canned air gets expensive quick so go and get a cheap air brush compressor it will save you a ton in the long run. Have a blast making flys that you can paint and don’t forget to post some pictures of what you have come up with!
