  1. A fly tier proudly shows off his meticulously organized tying materials. Each box is labeled with intricate detail: "Mayfly nymphs, size 16-20," "Dry flies, classic patterns," "Woolly buggers, big and mean." Then, he points to a dusty, unmarked box in the corner. "That one," he whispers, "contains my secret weapon, the fly so deadly I haven't dared to tie it since 1978." A curious friend reaches for the box, only to find it empty. The fly tier winks and says, "That's the joke, son. It's the 'fish never see it coming' fly."
  2. I'll give it a go! Walt's Worm.
  3. Flytyer do you tie one of these each day or several? They are exquisite and I see you've got them on your blog as well. Do you actively fish these on your home waters? I love looking at your work!
  4. I’m tying out of the Kaufman nymph book. First try at midges.
  5. Sorry if this is already covered / in the wrong spot. I was digging through my garage and came across some rope like material and wondered if it has any use in tying?
  6. I got the covid blues, singing in the rain. Guess I'll go tie some worms...size 10-16 with a very thin underwire.
  7. Appreciate the insights, comments, and suggestions. Thanks!
  8. So, on first tie in of the hackle (Hairline Hen Saddle) I didn't tie the tip but rather, the butt. And it didn't dawn on me until after I had tied in the chenille. So I had to reverse and redo. And, there is something wrong with the hackle for sure. Wrong product probably. It was all I had. Thread was Danville 70D. No rib. Just a simple bugger. /Clayton
  9. Okay, wow that was something else! 😝 Broke thread, tied the hackle in wrong way, I substituted. Dang, whip finishes look easier on YT! Tied on a Togen's Size 12 3X Streamer with a 3.2mm brass bead, some antron chenille, and pearl flashbabou. Pretty sure the tail is too long. I can just pinch it off right? Please critique. Thanks.
  10. I made this for my brother for Christmas. It was considerably harder than I had thought it might be. Multiple jigs attempted / made in the pursuit of this box. Cherry that I resewed, planed, and then cut and routed. Routed the inside, edges, and the name on the front. Fly is not mine, just there for attention. Barrel hinges, finished in a non-toxic finish used in cutting boards, etc.
  11. I hear what you are saying, just trying to add to the stock of other materials that I have been accumulating. Cheers.
  12. So, for the beginner there are so many things to buy you can go broke out the gate. What is the best bang for your buck when it comes to fur? Elk or Deer or other? Color choice? These would provide the beginner with the wider multitude of tying options. What say ye? Thanks.
  13. Very generous of you to tackle this project and share the spirit!
  14. Check this video - it might provide some value: YouTube - Tightline Video - Parachute Adams Size 22
  15. @byron those look great. I'm a woodworker and interested in learning some more on how you fabricate the nets. Thanks.
  16. Okay I know the bobbin holder. Although it is more than difficult to thread. I can’t even get wire through it. Likely wax in it. I can blow through it… what are the three small silver things? Anyone hazard a guess at the jigsaw / metal two pieces? Thanks.
  17. I'm sure it has been mentioned before, but some of the content from Hatches Mag is available here: https://web.archive.org/web/20071026131120/http://www.hatchesmagazine.com/page/month/333
  18. Thanks for the kind words and the circled items @chugbug27 Like I said I'm not sure what most of it is other than chenille, chicken feathers, the squirrel and elk hair. I'm looking forward to tying. Cheers /Clayton
