Canada-1080.jpg

Canada

Winged Wet Fly

Hook - Mustad Heritage S80AP
Thread - Red under the body; black head
Tail - Scarlet wool as a short tag
Ribbing - Gold tinsel
Body - Red floss
Hackle - Red
Wing - Mottled gray turkey

* The written recipe for the Canada lists a tip of ‘scarlet tag’ but it is more accurately a tail.

By standard definition this fly has no ‘tip.’

The head got away from me a little bit on these.  I haven't used 6/0 in a while and it built up quick on a #14.  The trout won't care.

Interesting combination of ingredients...and I am especially fond of the look of a forged hook.

DF, nice tie! Is there an underwing? Sure looks like there is something under the wing.

The only under body is the dubbing, not even a rib.  I followed the tightlines youtube pattern.  Obviously this fly lends itself to being tied with many choices of wing and hackle feathers in many colors.  I chose brown, almost brown and sort of brown because that's the color of the local bugs generally.

thanks

after looking at it, the wing is too wide (it should have been 2/3 hook gape)

the tail could lose 2-3 fibers to make it narrower

other than that its okay 😄
