Interesting vises...and I know the Tiemco will set you back some serious $$$$

It is probably obvious I like tying vises. That being said, the job of these things is simply to hold the hook securely.

Anything else is pure gingerbread...but part of the fun.

The Tiemco vise has a lot of features!  However, one review was not very kind regarding smoothness of the rotary function . . .

Has anyone actually used the Tiemco TMC Vise II?

Those are some great photos!  I kind of reminds you how carried away we get with the simple notion of holding a hook to tie a fly.  (And Lee Wulff tied flies without a vise, just using his hands! . . . and right at streamside I heard!)   I also heard that some people tied salmon flies without a vise.

Regards,

He had a great reputation for his practical approach to all things fly fishing...and this shows that to be true.

SalarMan and afishinado,

I have a question regarding the Stonfo Transformer.  I saw several comments in reviews that the easily-changeable head results in a little "slop" in the shaft axis, (which kind of makes sense given the spring-loaded ball bearing design).  Do you notice this looseness on your vises?

Regards,

I do not own a Stonfo vise...I think you misinterpreted my comments about watching a friend at my fly tying club use his. I gave it a go for about 10 minutes and thought it really was quite nice and well made. That being said, I believe for the same amount of money there are better vises out there. Depends on what fits your eye and your needs.
