September flies from the bench

Recommended Posts

Having just had a troll on another forum saying that resin, wire and thread don't constitute a fly I replied with this. Resin and thread only!

Cheers,

C.

That troll was correct though ... they don't constitute a "fly" in this case. But they do constitute a fantastic looking nymph.

A nymph isn't a fly???

Just to be precise the exact, quote was "Winding thread and wire on a hook and coating with UV resin isn't fly tying". Like most Englishmen when confronted with stupidity, I took the $%£&.

Cheers,

C.

It always amazes me how argumentative uk forums can be. Think its the modern old men in the pub thing. Makes me stay away from most of them for big chunks of time.

To the rigid traditional purest minded fly fisher, a fly must have at least some "natural" materials on the hook.

To the extreme dogmatic traditional minded fly fisher, a fly must have all "natural" materials on the hook. They might give the

thread a pass. Oh! . . . and you can't use a jig hook either.
