vicente 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2016 I came up with this pattern (at least I haven't seen another) a couple weeks ago, doses a pretty good dying shad/shiner impression back half is Steve Garrard SF blend in grey and anchovy on a size 2 stinger hook the front is spun deer hair on a 20mm shank. I have done them with a fly lip as well with good results

Kimo 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2016 Hey Nick,Always wanted to tie something with the rump feathers from a pheasant. It has those blue-grey feathers as well green and red strands. It also reminds me of partridge feathers, just a bit larger. Not sure it will fish but it has all the elements of a good crawdad imitation.Nothing in nature is just one color and crawdads are no exception. And it's fun.PM me your address and I'll send you one of those platens. You'll have to pickup your own Petitjean Magic Tool to use it.Kimo
caloosa bug 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2016 Made up some foam pencil poppers and a rainbow popper. I couldn't keep the little guys away from the little size 8 mayan colored one.
add147 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2016 These are some foam articulated flies that I came up with for the Large Mouth / Small Mouth Bass Swap. I think I will name them Chinese Dragons
Bimini15 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2016 ORIGINAL POST: Caloosa, if I may nitpick a bit, try some kind of loop knot on you poppers. EDITED POST: Caloosa, I think you are going to catch a 7lb.+ LMB on one of your poppers with that very same knot...
mikechell 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2016 Not for me, Bimini. I tie my poppers on the same way I do with all my flies. Simple clinch knot for me. I don't even use the "improved" version. Never had a knot fail, and I don't believe the "freedom of movement" supposedly given with a loop knot actually benefits the fly's action. It's a popper, I want the fly facing me every time I "pop" it.

caloosa bug 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2016 me too. Trilene or clinch knot. To me a loop knot almost impedes my pop sometimes depending on my retrieve. Like it kinda disturbs the water in front of my popping face if I'm working it fast. I would have to admit I rarely tie a loop knot and I can understand it's advantages in certain situations. Thanks for the tip though.
