Recommended Posts

Just a way of tying in a simple way a caddis nymph:

Tying Recipe

  • Hook: Maruto C46WBL #10-#16
  • Thread: Uni 8/0 black
  • Under Body: pale yellow thread
  • Body: Troutline Catgut in natural cream color
  • Thorax: Peacock
  • Bead – tungsten in gold

Fishing tips:

  • perfect for fishing using Czech Nymphing style and long nymphing style
  • extremely efficient in Sumem time when sedge flies are all over
  • the nymph looks very realistic when is wet
  • the nymph works excellent on a dropper in a team with another one more heavy on top

I really like the way catgut looks when wet. Very realistic. You can make caddis nymphs as fancy and involved as you want or simple like Lucian's. Either way catgut is a great body material to start with.....if you can find it.

If you can't find it in the store, I'm sure you can find a few cats wondering your neighborhood... just set a trap... lol.

Ha! The problem with that for me is I live at almost 9500 feet elevation in northern New Mexico. The only kitties wondering my neighborhood are also called mountain lions. I'm leaving them alone!

The poor little domestics probably were already eaten, the Wyoming lions do that.

I hope everyone realizes that "catgut" isn't really made from cats.

You can soak this, and cut your own strips ... probably enough in one order to last several years.

Yes, I was making a joke...

Just didn't want any newbie tiers to go trying to harvest their own catgut. Preventing the, "Now that I killed a stray cat, how do I prepare the gut?"
