FishnPhil 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2019 Thanks Mark. The red flies didn't turn out at all, I'm super disappointed. When wet, they should appear black with a red sheen, think I used too much dubbing and maybe even too thick of thread. Will try again but for now I gotta get back to dollys, clousers, and big stuff. Great looking stuff Phil, both of those would kill in Alaska
fshng2 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2019 Thanks fshg2, I hate to ask too many Q's on this thread but do you use the fireholes in salt or only fresh? Thanks Mark. CB no problem ask away. This is my first time tying with fireholes, however I haven't fished them yet. To answer your question, I do plan on using them in salt and fresh water because they are nickel plated. That said after using any flies in saltwater I rinse them in freshwater. Then let all flies dry whether used in salt or fresh water regardless which hook it is tied on. Features I like: Wide gape, straight eye, 3X long, extra heavy wire (meat hook), barbless sticky sharp needle point, black nickel finish. They are nice to tie on, and easy on the wallet. Firehole Sticks in the Salt https://www.jsflyfishing.com/blog/firehole-sticks-in-the-salt/ Article Summary: They clearly will withstand some abuse without instant corrosion and will perform probably just as well as any typical saltwater hook. Sandan 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2019 Thanks, they're on my wishlist... I use Firehole sticks quite a bit, they stick great. Fulling Mill hooks are pretty good also.
