jamieofthenorth 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2020 Experimented with a few patterns I haven't tied before, though I am very familiar with their close cousins: King River Caddis, Size 14 Body: Tan rabbit fur dubbing Hackle: Brown Wing: Molted turkey Notes: The wings were a bit of a struggle, as I haven't worked with turkey a ton before. Couldn't help but think "the AK Best Spent Caddis has a similar profile and is a bit easier to tie." Katterman, Size 16 Body: Peacock Hackle: Brown and white. Tail: Two hackle tips, white. Notes: Given that it looks like the offspring of a Griffith's Gnat and a Bivisible, two flies that I've had very good success with, I figured I was overdue with giving this pattern a whirl. There seems to be some debate on what the tail should be.
Bimini15 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2020 Aaargh! Friggin’ frustrating... I was cutting the perfect head... somehow got the ideal razor angle and curvature... deer hair surprisingly dense and tight after the fight I had with it... But I just had to get a little tiny bit closer on the underside, and... I cut the thread. I salvaged half the head. I am calling this one the phantom of the opera. You do not want to see the other side...
Moshup 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2020 @jamieofthenorth Thanks and some nice tying on your part. I used to have a lot of action on the bivisibles for searuns up in the Maritimes when I was just a lad.🙂

I threw together some marabou for a tail and wrapped some flash and hackle just to get to the excuse for the fly: deer hair hair.
