niveker 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2021 20 minutes ago, DFoster said: Nice work- Swift river last weekend? LOL - thanks. No the week-end before, just below Rt 9 to the tree pool. I don't usually fish that section, but I had my brother, who is new to fly fishing, with me and wanted to give him a taste. Unfortunately, I did not have a good selection of midges with me, as I had forgotten that I put some in a separate box for travelling light, and I have a bad habit of giving quite a few away, so I had to tied up some more, still a few more to go. Trout were rising pretty steadily below the pipe and into the pool above the riffles, which isn't unusual, but at times the water would boil for 20-30 seconds, and of course you could see nothing on the surface. We had nothing they wanted and ended up leaving when it started to get too crowded. Ended up down in the Bondsville area where I landed a few nice brookies and rainbows on a Grizzly King streamer. DFoster 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2021 Here's a pattern I call an Angel Fish which cobbled together from the extra stuff on my desk. I had enough for 2 flies. They're super effective at catching tall trees 🙄 and I lost them both before I had a chance to fish them for long enough to evaluate them. They look like a summer pattern to my eye so I'll tie a couple more for the warmer weather. Hopefully something out there swimming in the river will want to eat them. ANGEL FISH HOOK: #10 MEDIUM WIRE 3XL NYMPH THREAD: BLACK 6/0 TAIL: CRAFT STORE HEN DYED PINK/RED BODY: HOLOGRAPHIC MYLAR -GREEN RIB: ULTRA WIRE - CHARTRUSE UNDER HACKLE: PEACOCK SWORDS COLLAR: HEN - DUN HEAD: SHHAN

It's maddening when the Swift Bows exclusively feed on those little "barely even there" bugs. Last time I was at the pipe- Dan Trela was next to me fishing #30 Wicked Pissahs on 9X and he said the naturals were even smaller than size 30s.
