  1. If you want to step from pattern, a hot pink tag section would be a great addition! New ideas and variations often catch more fish. That is why there are so many patterns out there! After the first 1000 patterns you tie, you'll start seeing the variations! Think about it.... same fly but simply change out the color or shade of soft hackle! In hen capes I have some 80+ variations alone!
  2. There is a Part Three, if you go to the posting page!
  3. I use one for bigger flies, mostly! Never any trouble with it, for all the same reasons noted! I've had other vises that I simply wore out the nibs, and to date, had to buy the replacement parts or move on to something else, as they all looked at it as "normal wear". Yes.... put a lot of hooks through those vises! and the Number one cause of excessive wear, it typically, mis-seated hook or wrong adjustment when switching between hooks! I did have a "no-name" vise "pop" the tips of once for same reason! One on 16 years of tying!
  4. Great looking fly! It should be great where ever you pitch it! Color choices are unlimited! Simple methods and easy to find materials! Does "guide fly" not come to mind! LOL Music? Oh, wait! I have my own choice via headset and computer! I seldom listen through a video more then once to catch any instructions! Then I work on through from there, with my own music! So, play what you like! By the way.... the pulse of that music will cause your rate of tying to go up, once you have the fly figured out! Happy tying and may your threads stay strong!
  5. LOL.... At least you got a quality vise! Really, though, that fly should catch!! I like the length and quantity of hackle! Some like'em bushy.... others don't! While like many others, I work towards the best I can produce, with the experience, materials and time I have to get it done! I use to worry a bit about not so much matching the hatch, but matching "everyone else's boxes". LOL As I moved along in tying, I ran across books that talk of "Spinners and Cripples"..... Got to thinking.... I've been giving all my "cripples" away!! There are days on the river when I could not buy a hit, in considering I had all my cute little flies lined up looking like clones! As just as often, the "bite" fell apart, right after loosing that ratty old fly, and I had to tie on a new one! Enjoy tying, as much as your dreams of the next fish, on!! Life is too short! P.S. if that fly comes up short, I'll be happy to adopt it to fish other waters! Great first efforts! You'll enjoy a short learning curve!
  6. Yep! Folks tend to drift through the various BB's! At last check, I counted 48 BB's and many more blogs that I have linked to at one time or another! I keep the whole list as links, and drift around to catch various topic lines! Between that, fly tying and occasional fishing, my "free time" is a bit stretched! I do know that while some folks may be away, the many others on here are good resources as well, to address your questions! Man, like myself, have been involved in tying for 10 years or more! Well,I notice some empty spots in some of my boxes so I guess I better get busy! Tight lines! FliTrap
  7. I have extra fly boxes, if you want, I'll send them to you.... you can fill them up then send them back! I'll promptly dispose of the evidence by selling the boxes as a fund raiser for Casting for Recovery-Missouri!! Win--Win! FliTrap
  8. " :hyst: When it rains,....." :hyst:
  9. Oh, ya! Address to send that fly to you, WYKnot! [email protected]
  10. WyKnot! I'm just wondering.... I saw that GS (Dave) asked to get in on the fun of this swap.... that you told him its "closed at 15..." If we are each tying just a single fly and getting only one back.... would a nother tyer make a bit of difference? That is as long as he makes the dead line and such! Just a thought! FliTrap P.S. GS (Dave).... if you can't get in .... E-Mail me.... i'll tie up two and swap you personally! [email protected] :headbang:
  11. Sounds like a great swap! Are there going to be any pics to spur the rest of us on for next time? :dunno: :hyst: FliTrap
  12. Sgt Thompson! Now, If you folks can't wait to see how your flies work, you can send a few back to the senders of the "stuff" and let them try them out for ya! I'm sure they could snap a few pics to post on here to show the results! :hyst: As you guys rotate back home, yell out and see who is in the area of the Base and line up a Fly Flippen' Trip! I'm in the St Louis, Mo. area and have some extra "loaner gear" for a trip should anyone be coming back this way! :yahoo: You all take care and stay safe! FliTrap
  13. Hey, Folks! I'm interested in getting in on this swap if there is room! either way, is there a link to the pics of such flies from last time? Haven't been able to find it! FliTrap
  14. Thanks for the feed back, Guys! I did fine an article that explained the difference, basicly saying the same thin as jmmccutc did! It noted that Bigginner Fly tyers may fine using the hen cape feathers a bit easier to start wityh as they are longer and easier to get ahold of! It noted too that the best affects can be gained with many of the other feathers that were already noted! Thanks again! FliTrap4
  15. So heres a question for you! are the feathers from a hen cape or neck as good for soft hackle flies as are those from chucker and such? What would be the difference in the water? FliTrap4
