  1. I'm probably going to get lynched for suggesting this.....but here goes...LLBean has some decent starter packages.....rod, reel, line ready to fish for under 150.00.....they are decent rods....I have a streamlight that i still use.....
  2. I make articulated flies.....I use the same wire.....similar hooks...nothing fancy...I'm not sure what you mean by double through the first eye.....when I tie one...I tie the back section first.....tie down one end of the wire to the lead hook shank.....loop the tag end through the tailing hook eye...then tie that loose end back to the lead hook shank...I tie them one on top of each other so the tailing hook stays straight....hope that helps....
  3. I'm assuming that means you liked them....thanks man....they were fun to make....
  4. I like both as well.....but moving water warm water is my preference...can't keep me away from those smallies....
  5. glad you like it.....i would agree.....it says it all.....my personal paradise...
  6. 75 gallon tank.....it has a life size human skeleton in it.....goldfish....ohh....and the trout question...goldfish are coldfish water fish as well....exotic breeders have cooling systems installed in the filtration systems.....the water is maintained at a certain temp, they also use a lot of airaters to keep oxygen levels up....I would assume the same system could be used for trout.....
  7. well...mine are done....they might not be perfect either......but.....I took one for a test drive today and they catch bass.....so please send an address....
  8. I was looking at my fish tank this morning......became inspired.......Goldfish.....just for kicks....
  9. the smallies around me would go crazy for it....
  10. that's an amazing fly by the way....beautiful....the way I made my lip was to cut mylar....I left a tag end with a slit in the middle to tie around the hook shank...then the entire thing is epoxied down.....you couldn't get that lip off with a pliers...how about yours? how's it attached?
  11. ok...so tried it out on the water today.....incredible action...that spoon throws the fly side to side...the articulated back section goes all over the place....when stripped in quick it goes about 6 inches below the surface then pops back up when stopped.....a little tough to throw out...definitly a double haul moment....I'm going to shorten the bill a little ...I think it will hold an up right position better.....and maybe move even more on the surface....all in all....a good experiment...I will make more....
  12. streamers and poppers......warm water flies
  13. It's funny...I have the same issue...I actually spoke with Kelly Galloup on the phone 3 days ago....I called his fly shop and he was nice enough to chat with me for a while about his flies and tying...I couldn't believe it....The Kiwi Muddler that I'm tying isn't his either...It's an improvement by one of his guides on a pre-existing fly.....There were a couple of flies on the list that weren't his either...He did say that they use all of the flies on his site pretty regularly with great success....So even if they aren't his creations...It did seem that they all had his support as super successful flies....So let's tie em'......
  14. i guess i need to experiment a bit...got all winter to tie up a bunch of um....hoping to try it out this weekend
  15. thanks all.....the lip is made with a self sealing laminate strip coated with epoxy then clear coated.....Bruce.....I haven't fished with it yet....I'm hoping to give it a try this weekend....what will the shorter lip do?
  16. so this is mallard feather in the tail, white/olice/yellow/black marabou.....stacked deer hair.....articulated.....with a rapala style spoon in front.....my new creation....what do you think?
  17. Very nice...I have never tied with wool.....Does the fly sink? If you don't mind asking....how do you work with it?
  18. As a professional artist myself...My hat goes off to you...a fine display of artisty and craftmanship.....congrats on the accomplishment....
  19. I might give a category or two a whirl....
  20. I fish out of a kayak and love it....My newest one is the Freedom Hawk.....It's 14 ft , the back 4 feet are individual pontoons that spread into a y making a ridiculously stable standing platform to sight fish from.....Standing in a kayak fly fishing.....amazing....they are not cheap though....Roughly $1800.00....but well worth it....
  21. thanks....have not tried it yet...at this point probably not until spring unfortunately.....
