  1. Simms. Montana made, and with a boatload of pride. Prove it to yourself, N.O., try e'm on. The fit is perfect and so is the workmanship and materials. You DID say money was no object
  2. Pitzen here. It's it's a quick, compact and super-strong knot that tells you when it's tied correctly. The biggest problem with it is that it seems much stronger than the other knots in the system. When I have to break the fly off in a snag I usually lose the whole tippet and not just the fly. True story.
  3. Keep us posted, travbass2. I've floated the river near Sparta last summer. I don't know why but it was one of my most memorable trips. The river there, to my eyes, was absolutely beautiful. It helps that the day was near perfect, the fish were happy and the company was great. Our group will be back again in August. Post if you plan on any scouting trips and want some company. I'm not too far away in Charlotte. Jack
  4. When J. Johnson said 'mend' he meant it. The water at the surface is a lot faster generally than the water down low. You don't want your nymph racing through the fish, it should drift naturally. A good experiment for checking water speed at different depths is to hold your rod perpendicular to the flow and slowly lower it through the water column. In a decent current it will bend quite a bit when on top of the water and straighten out as it gets near the bottom. I learned this between yawns waiting for the hex's to pop.
  5. These are for you (us!)! http://www.flytyingworld.com/PagesD/ds-salmonfly_albino.htm http://www.flytyingworld.com/Tying%20Techn...addis_larva.htm I saw these on another site and thought they were way cool and imaginative!
  6. Engelensh. Actually, I read this as a reply on a job application when the application asked the same question. We didn't hire that person.

    NEW & IMPROVED

Orvis ain't alone in this game! There is a VERY popular rod company (Sage) that is always adding more letters to their rod names because they are new and improved. Worse yet, they re-introduce old rods under new names and 'new, improved' (read that more expensive!) prices. Nothing like having the value of your new state-of-the-art fly rod drop in value 50% six months after you bought it simply because the added an 'x' or an 'i' to the name!
  8. I'll be there. I'll be the guy smiling and wearing a club show shirt. I'll probably have a Winston or High Country Outdoors hat on. My name's Jack if you ask around. It'd be nice to match a face with the 'handles' on here!
  9. QUOTE (Jim Hester in MD @ Feb 28 2004, 06:49 AM) Peddler, where did you meet Sarah Gardner? She's an old friend of mine! She worked at a local shop at one time. Sweet girl, and loves to fish! She also did some art work for me once. I've never met Brian, but know of him by his reputation & writing! I first met her at a rod show in Charlotte, then later at the Outer Banks during false albacore season. In fact, we just booked her for a guide trip out there this October for Fat Alberts. Her and her husband live down here during albie season and are considered the top guides. Gotta love their Jones Bros. boats! Is it true she was a neighbor of Lefty who took her under his wing and taught her casting? She does throw a line a country mile and can be seen on the Kreh video 'Lessons with Lefty'.
  10. It's a good one! I'll be driving up from Charlotte NC for it.

  12. Presenting the Fly by Lefty Kreh It covers everything, nicely. Orvis Flyfihing Guide. Another very good all-rounder.
  13. Metz. I'll be wearing a High Country Outdoors name tag. I'll also be working the Rocky River T.U. booth from 1:00 to 5:00 on Saturday. Look me up! Peddler
  14. I'm here. I live in Charlotte but travel NC, SC and VA all week scouting for customers and fishing holes! Quite a few of us will be at a hotel near the rod show this weekend at a tying fest. Cheap rooms are available and a conference room or two is ours for tying. C'mon over!

    Dream trip

Somewhere way past 'down south' for monster peacock bass on a fly!
  16. Next time your in there, ask the dentist for a pack or two of those floss threaders. Pefect for stringing up your bobbin. I also managed to get one of those small grinders/bits they used on your root canals. It works well for fluffing up dubbing.
  17. I picked it up at the Charlotte rod show last year. Didn't realize it weighed as much as my kick-boat anchor! It's one of those gizmo's you stash away praying they become highly sought collectables... yeah, right!
  18. 3, 4 or 5 times a week during the spring, summer and fall. One or two times a week during the coldest days of winter. Last Saturday it was 60 degrees for our kick-boat flotilla down the Catawba River. Outside sales has its priviledges!
  19. Have you ever seen one of these? It's a good concept for keeping hackles in shape and for not letting the wind blow your flies all over the place. The windows pop open when you press on the bottom of the compartment. I haven't worked out enough yet to haul this beast around though.
  20. Here's how SDH did it. http://www.mironov.net/pingu/pingu2.swf It's a different link. The secret is teaching that sucker to flap its wings after you launch it!

Ain't ya glad Kobe Bryant didn't have his way with Jennefer Lopez just before her wedding announcement with Michael Jackson?
  22. QUOTE (steeldrifter @ Jan 16 2004, 01:14 AM) its not a virus bud ;)dont worry! WHEW!!!
  23. WARNING! I'm glad my up-to-date Norton caught the Trojan Horse virus imbedded in that post.
  24. Here's my first samples with the new camera. Thanks for all the input guys but I made a friend a deal on the Oly and broke down and got the Pentax for its size and quick macro ability and because its supposed to be water resistant. Aw shoot! After posting I see my pics got shrunk. Seems I have my work cut out for me!
