  1. Just did a batch of Cajun Ticklers for a swap, and can see you know how to get a good tight weave on them Nice colors!
  2. It catches fish, so it must be good.
  3. I'd like to give this a try with a cajun tickler. Still got a space open?
  4. "Tails are a little to long for me. And i think it would look better with ribbing, and it would be more durable. Anyways great tie. If the fish like it than its fine." Long tails are no problem when bluegill fishing, the gills will nip them short in no time at all.
  5. Family first, always! Got my June mailed this afternoon, they should be there Friday, according to the post office. If I remember right, all of our flies from here on will go to Riffleriversteelheadslayer., correct?
  6. " I still wonder what's the purpose of the little protrustion on the bottom of the vise shaft." Maybe to push against to rotate the jaws?
  7. " I still wonder what's the purpose of the little protrustion on the bottom of the vise shaft." Maybe to push against to rotate the jaws?
  8. If it catches fish, it is fine. If it doesn't catch fish, do something differant.
  9. Post a picture and maybe someone could figure it out, or maybe they know it by another name.
  10. Got the April set in the mail today, and although I know almost nothing about czech nymphs, these look like they will catch fish. Thanks to all of you.
  11. THere is a book by Eric Lieser called "Fly Tying Materials" which explains how to skin a rooster for use by a fly tyer. If you can get a copy of that (try Barnes and Nobles' used books online) he gives a sbs that is very thorough.
  12. Have sent off my flies for May.
  13. Got mine in yesterday, but didn't get a chance to look them over till this morning. Great looking set of topwaters for bluegill. We've come a long way since the "sponge spiders" and "yellow bottle stopper poppers" of the 60's.
  14. Mine were put in the mail today. No name for them. Also got in the first three months worth of flies. It was a long wait, but worth it. Lots of really good flies in the batch.
  15. Got my set in today, and all of them look a lot better than the one I tied. Looks like I need to get in more practice, also. Thanks to all for the great poppers.
  16. Right on with wrapping over the top. Your fraying and breaking of the thread could be the bobbin holder you are using, Some of the ones with steel tubes can be a tiny bit rough on the inside of the tube, or have a tiny burr, either of which will fray and cut the thread. If you have a ceramic tube, this is not a problem. If you have a steel tube, one way I have used to smooth the inside of the tube is to get some tripoli (or auto polishing compound) and put some on a string which will go through the tube. Hold the string tight and go around the end of the tube with the treated string to polish away the rough spot or burr.
  17. For me this is a hobby, playtime, relaxation, etc. If I tied the same thing time after time, it woud not be those things, it would be work. So I tie differant things, even if I have no intention of ever using them. After all, there is Project Healing Waters and other place to send the extras. Or I can strip the hooks and reuse them.
  18. The articulation is made using a piece of stainless steel wire, with a loop eye in one end. The other end is bent into a tight "U" shape, with the shankof the wire long enough to fit the head. The eye of the hook, with the pattern tied on, is slipped ilnto the back bend, then the bend is tied to shut the loop. The wire is then glued into the head, and the head painted.
  19. Got mine in the mail this morning.
  20. I tie in the attic, The wife's arthiritus won't let her go up there. Best solution known to man.
  21. A quick spray of WD40 or other silicone spray on the cutter will help a lot when cutting foam. Just don't overdo the spray, or can make a problem with painting.
  22. I use a set of punches from Harbor Freight, Has a hole in the side to allow me to push out the plugs.
  23. I just use stainless steel wire used for lure making, and have no worry about rusting. The cost of the wire is about $2.50 for 30 yards, so would be even cheaper than the hair pins.
