Why does a middle aged man at least 500 miles from the nearest Salmon water become possessed by the tying of complex patterns ? Why does he spend copious amounts of time and money on patterns he will seldom if ever use ? Why do things like bits of silken floss and tinsel hold his interest to the point he doesn't hear the phone or just plain ignores it Why when he spies that one of a kind bag of dubbing or a Pheasant skin does he began to shake and break out in a sweat? When does madness end? Is there ANY hope for the salmon fly addict? In my case gimme a hand full of Bartleet hooks and a jungle cock skin and I will try not to over dose! Tube

Tell you the truth I have thought about it in the past and even tried it for a short while. I like to tie and experiment so much that , like I said , it didn't last too long, come to think of it I carry like 7 boxes in the vest and problably another three in the tackle bag. Not to mention trying out new and different stuff. Tube

mrjim ' Sounds like you know what works in this part of the world. Bennett is one of my very favorite parks to fish or at least when the crowds thin out in the fall. I have posted a couple of soft hackle patterns that work well down there, both are fairly small ( 14 to size 22) just click on "My flies'' and have a look Good luck and if I can get away I will give you a shout

I have a few wet fly and soft hackle patterns that I fish regularly and I am wanting to add some more to my trout boxes. I am a Missouri boy and know that part of the world quite well. Fishinwrench and I are planning a November trip to the White and maybe the Little Red. Maybe we could get together and wet a hook? Tube

On my first trip to the Pierre Marquette I screwed up big time. I went with my friends Jimmy and Mike to Baldwin for the king run in the fall of '90. Being an experinced Fly fisher I had some what of " I know it all " attitude when it came to wadding. When we arrived the first morning and parked the car , I could hardly wait to get into the stream and start fishing. While we were rigging up Jimmy said" Tube you need to be careful here, the stream has a strong current and isn't like wadding in Missouri and Arkansas" I looked at the stream and then back at Jimmy and said " I aint no flat lander, Jimmy" , This of course had the ring of over confidence that even I should have noticed. He in turn gave me that " Ok, we will see " look. Half way between the car and the high bank hole I saw several large males at the tail of a nice hole and I decided to start here. I waded out to the edge of the hole and began to cast and at about the time I was ready to lay the cast down the current had taken all the gravel from under my feet and I went down like the twin towers. fortunately there was a local guy fishing just up stream from me and had saw the whole thing he came running and fished my fat ass out of the drink. Of course my two partners saw the whole thing and were on the bank howling. I was too damn embarassed to say anything to them and to add insult to injury the guy that fished me out looked at me and said" First time wadding, huh?" I learned 4 valuable lessons that day 1 I dont know everything about wadding 2 Always wear a wadder belt 3 Keep your Pentax in a waterproof bag 4 A shot of humility is good for Ol' Tube from time to time Be careful at the vise and glad to hear you have medical help in case you aren't! Tube

Depending on the type fishing am doing I average 7 on the water and usally 5 in the gear bag. That is the draw back to tying for 35 years. I, like most of you out there, am a pack rat after a fashion. And besides that pattern maybe hot again !?! Tube
